Will you join me on a trip back in time...a recent guest said, 'Ellen's house is chill. It's like the 50's built the future.' Catalano Guest House of Raleigh is a historically significant, nearly perfectly preserved piece of mid-Centurty Modernist Architecture. Only minor updating has occurred since it was built in 1953 -- a bathroom update in the late 70's (though the large, goldenrod, enamel tub was left in place) and the replacement of a galley kitchen with a full size kitchen in 1996. Designed by world renowned architect Eduardo Catalano and partner Horacio Caminos in 1953, it was originally named the B. Richard Jackson House. It is also known as the Carrier Weathermaker National Prize Winning House, a showcase home designed and built to demonstrate the affordability and accessibility of A/C in a moderate price range. Only the very affluent were privileged enough to have A/C at that time. Catalano and Caminos inventively incorporated HVAC vents by encasing them in the concrete flooring system. For their design, Carrier Corp. awarded Catalano and Caminos with the first place cash prize of $5,000. The home received publicity in 1954 as a feature in Living For Young Homemakers magazine and Raleigh’s local newspaper, the News and Observer. Over the years the house was renamed three times. More

Amazing house! One of kind. Spotless Ellen was very sweet and accommodating. She is also very pleasant to talk to. I am staying for a little over 3 weeks, and I will be pretty sad when I go Would 100% recommend

About the neighbourhood
Safe walkable upscale neighborhood. Whole For Grocery and our bus stop are < .3 km. Very close to the award winning Raleigh Greenway (trails) and the North Carolina Museum of Art. NCSU is an 8 min bus ride. Downtown Raleigh takes about 20 mins.
Getting around
I use a bicycle and the buses and trains. We have the bikes on buses program and the trains allow bicycles as well. I do not need a car as the bus stop is less than .3 km away. This area is quite hilly, so you might think about that if walking or biking is a problem. We have both ebikes and electric scooters for rent everywhere.
