Burra, South Australia
Kookaburra Cottage is a rustic stone cottage in the old copper mining town of Burra. You are surrounded by history, wheat fields, sheep and kangaroos. The beds are a queen in one room and a double in the other, both with electric blankets. It gets cold in Burra in winter but there is a large open fire in the lounge and additional heaters. Provisions for continental breakfasts are included in the tariff and left in the kitchenette for you to self prepare. In warm weather it is lovely to have your morning coffee on the covered verandah and look out over the paddocks and views of Burra.

Nice quiet location with easy access. Lovely old-world decor. Pity we stayed in winter as the outdoor eating area would be ideal in milder weather. However, there was ample heating to keep us cozy. The kitchen and bathroom were a bit basic but we had...More

About the neighbourhood
Burra is a heritage listed town less than 2 hours drive north of Adelaide. Founded in the early 1850s when copper was discovered, this now quiet town was once a hive of industry. Many South Australian families can trace their roots to Burra. The Visitor Centre in the Main Street rents keys to the town's historic sites to allow visitors access to many of the original buildings on a self guided tour.
Getting around
Like so much of country South Australia, Burra no longer has public transport. You can walk around the town centre to shops, cafes and pubs but will need your car to visit the many historic sites around what was once a large township.

How to get there
Your cottage is located in a quiet street on the very edge of Burra North. Coming into Burra from Adelaide go straight ahead through Market Square, across the Kooringa Bridge past Paxton Square cottages. Turn left at the end of Paxton Square into Smelts Road. Follow this road for about 2 kilometres. Cross over the Burra Morgan Road (watch for traffic) into Landore Street then right into Penglawdd Street. Follow this road and veer right into Llanelly Street. Kookaburra is well signposted on your left.
