Ennerdale Bridge, Lake District, Cumbria, England
Our 4 bedroomed detached cottage, named after one of the local fells, is situated in the village of Ennerdale Bridge. It lies within the Lake District National Park, 1 mile from tranquil Ennerdale Water, with fell views and a pleasing rear outlook over fields to the River Ehen. Bright and airy inside, it is comfortably furnished and well-equipped. The lounge has mixed fuel burning stove and newly fitted bathroom has bath with overhead shower .

We have Sky Sports 1 to 5, Sky Movies , along with Sky Box Sets including Game of Thrones and Others. We also have Wi-Fi.

The village has two good pubs, one 50 m away, and an excellent children's adventure playground. Ennerdale provides low level lakeside and forest walks as well as routes onto the high fells. Loweswater, Crummock Water and Buttermere are within easy reach, as is the sandy...

We entered the house with high expectations as photos in the listing looked amazing. However, as we entered the house we were gobsmacked to see the state of house. Of course it is very old property, however that doesn't mean that it should smell bad or shabbily maintained. First thought that came to our mind was WHY DID WE PAY...

Heckbarley is a super location, downstairs there is a hallway to your left a Kitchen,Downstairs Toilet,Small Utility area,Conservatory leading onto the Garden with a Small patio area . To your right downstairs there is large living room & dining room. Upstairs four bedrooms one with an ensuite & large bathroom. For our party the rooms were great size. We managed to...

Management response:

The drive can accommodate one large car easily, or two small cars if they are parked close. This is no problem as there is ample safe and easy parking just up the road 20 metres away. Plenty of space there for additional vehicles.

About the neighbourhood
The Western Lake District is a far cry from the commercialised SE of the National Park. Most of the shoreline of Ennerdale Water is owned by the National Trust and the surrounding woods by the Forestry Commission. Unlike most major lakes in the Lake District, no public road runs along the shore, making Ennerdale a peaceful haven for wildlife. Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Long Distance Path, passes the front door of Heckbarley and follows the length of Ennerdale. You can also walk a circuit of the lake (if you can negotiate the rocky outcrop of Angler's Crag!) or venture into the high fells with routes to Pillar and Steeple, the High Stile Ridge, and even Great Gable. The C2C Cycle Path is also nearby and is great for safe, off-road cycling; there are also forest trails fo... more
