I stayed in this beautiful cottage for two nights with family and friends for my 30th birthday. Nice local walks with gorgeous surroundings and village pubs. All very welcoming. The house has everything to offer. Never went without anything. Will definitely return

We followed the advise of the owner to avoid Hardknott pass and didn't use the sat nav until we were off the M6. The directions were good. We found the cottage warm and welcoming( the radio greeted us) and soon we were enjoying the scenery....More

About the neighbourhood
Within the valley lie the villages of Boot, Eskdale Green and Ravenglass, a Narrow Gauge Railway, a Castle, the last working Corn mill in the Lake District, several Galleries, 3 Campsites, 7 Inns and much much more.

The river Esk starts it's journey to the sea from high in the fells at Esk Hause, passing through Great Moss at the base of Scafell Pike then tumbling down through a narrow gorge and a series of waterfalls. The stream swelled by many becks becomes a river and encounters it's first road at the foot of Hardknott Pass England's steepest road. From here the river takes on a more gentle character with small rapids as it passes through some of the most beautiful oak woodland in Cumbria. Railway: Ravenglass for Eskdale: 13.0 km
By Car
Leave the M6 motorway at junction 36 for Kendal/Lakes.
Follow signs to Barrow (A590).
Turn right to Workington (A5092) 3 miles beyond Newby Bridge and follow this road to Broughton-in-Furness (10 miles).
Turn right to Ulpha before the River Duddon (3/4 mile beyond Broughton).
After 4 miles turn left in Ulpha village to the steep hill signed Eskdale.
Follow the fell road to the King George IV pub (6 miles).
Turn right.
At the Brook House (Poachers Bar) turn left into Boot village. Pass the Boot Inn on your left and immediately after the red phone box turn right into the lane before the small bridge.
The road is labelled as private.
