Holiday Rental House
A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) There are 60 acres of rolling farmland to explore, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This unique self-catering property has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard to ensure a comfortable stay. The property is situated on a secluded and very quiet country lane and has a private driveway. The enclosed private garden is safe for children. When exploring the farm, care should be taken near ponds, wells, the bordering stream and of course the animals! You will have the use of your own private garden with BBQ facilities. Due to the fact that this is a working farm with livestock, regrettably we cannot allow dogs...A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) Loved staying here. Great location, peaceful, within a lovely farm. Clean and tidy. The rooms are spacious. Plenty of space for four people. Bread, milk, butter, eggs had been left in the kitchen upon our arrival. Shame we didn't have more time to stay longer...More

We had a lovely relaxing few days here, the place was clean and tidy, and fresh fruit, tea/coffee, bread and milk were supplied, which was a nice touch. Will definitely go back.

We loved our stay in the Oast House, so nice to arrive and find provisions already there waiting (including chocolate biscuits!) and a warm welcome from the owner. The accommodation was spacious and clean, the only sounds outside were birdsong and the gentle mooing of...More

About the neighbourhood
The historic village of Mayfield was at its height during the boom in the Wealden iron industry, and many of the fine houses date from that time. Both village and church are said to have been founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, St Dunstan, in 960 CE, and there are legends surrounding his connection with the village. There is an array of shops on Mayfield High Street, as well as three pubs: the Middle House (in the High Street), the Carpenters Arms and the Rose and Crown (both in Fletching Street). The renowned Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts is a biennial event that takes place in May and attracts world class performers.Royal Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within easy reach.
How to get there
A car is advisable. The farm is under an hour's drive from Gatwick airport. Car hire from Gatwick is easy. Wadhurst rail station is under 15 minutes away by car on the London Charing Cross to Hasings line. Crowborough( Jarvis brook) station is on the slower Victoria line. The farm is also easily accessible from Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge stations, where there are taxis available. Charing Cross to Wadhurst takes an hour. The same line also stops at Waterloo East and London Bridge. To drive to us from central London takes 1.5 -2 hours Eastbourn is about half an hour away by car, Brighton a little farther.
