A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) There are 60 acres of rolling farmland to explore, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This unique self-catering property has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard to ensure a comfortable stay. The property is situated on a secluded and very quiet country lane and has a private driveway. The enclosed private garden is safe for children. When exploring the farm, care should be taken near ponds, wells, the bordering stream and of course the animals! You will have the use of your own private garden with BBQ facilities. Due to the fact that this is a working farm with livestock, regrettably we cannot allow dogs...A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Relaxing Vacation!
We had a wonderful three weeks in “The Oast” in April in beautiful romantic surroundings. Just caught the last days of Snake’s Head Frittilaria and Daffodils etc. in front of the house and experienced the blue carpets of Bluebells in the forests. The house is very cosy with heating, sanitary equipment, kitchen, beds and internet all perfect. Shopping is easy, Crowborough with lots of shops and supermarkets is just a 15 minutes ride away. There are many National Trust properties around to visit with houses and gardens, and Lewes with its antiques centres is not far away either. On arrival we found an overwhelming welcome pack, the size of which we had never experienced before. So, thank you very much, Daphne, for everything. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back soon. Susanne and Peter from Duesseldorf in Germany

Thank you for leaving the Oast in such good order and for being lovely guests. The apple blossoms is now fully out in its garden and the hedges at their greenest. Hope to see you back!

Excellent house in a wonderful location
I've just spent a couple of nights at the Oast whilst working in Tunbridge Wells. It's lovely, comfortable, very clean, well equipped and surprisingly spacious. The beds are very comfy and the linen is hotel quality. It's in a wonderful location and although it's on a working farm it's incredibly quiet. Highly recommended!

Amazing oast house
A lovely place to stay with a very homely feel, surprised with the groceries left by Daphne on our arrival. Daphne is very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. We will definitely be going back again

Away from all the noise!
A lovely stay in The Oast, away from the noise of traffic and lots of walks to explore. Very comfortable with everything we needed. The garden was a great place to sit and watch the wildlife whilst having a cup of tea. Daphne is a great host with excellent help and swiftly answered any queries. And a super welcome treat to greet us. A good base to visit many NT places and Pooh Corner cafe not far away.

Peaceful!
Wonderfully peaceful place to relax. The Oast house was extremely comfortable and provided everything we needed for our short stay. The provisions that Daphne left for us on arrival were a real blessing. The garden was a lovely place to sit for breakfast... surrounded by God's wonderful Creation; rabbits, badgers, woodpeckers, and beautiful scenery. We hope to be back again soon.

Just what we were looking for
We chose this property to be out in the countryside, and boy did we get it right! Daphne, the owner was very helpful. We found eggs, butter, milk, and bread waiting for us which was a nice gesture that relieved some of the pressure to find a store ASAP. We had a great time rambling over the sizeable amount of property they have with beautiful fields and landscapes all over. I saw deer, pheasant, and rabbits. The house itself was very nice. It was perfect for the three of us. I would like to rent this property again in the future.

Peace and Tranquility!
The Oast House is on a farm in East Sussex not far from the historic village of Mayfield. The photos on Tripadvisor really don't do it justice. The building is beautiful and the inside has everything you will need for your holiday. The kitchen is well stocked with crockery and utensils. The double bedroom is huge and the single has a pull-out bed for a 4th person. There's lots of garden space if you have children. The farmland is great for rambling and the cows even came right up to the garden fence to check us out! We also saw foxes, rabbits, birds of prey and a herd of deer. There is WiFi available which is great as we had little reception when out and about in this very rural area. There are lots of beautiful places to visit nearby and the Oast House was a real haven to return to at the end of a busy day. We really looked forward to our early evening walks around the farm looking out for the different animals and the lack of light pollution means it's great for stargazing in the late evenings. Daphne, the owner, is unobtrusive but is just a stone's throw away if you need anything. She left us a lovely welcome pack in the kitchen: bread, milk, butter, eggs, biscuits, granola, marmalade, tea, coffee and a huge bowl of fresh fruit. This was the first holiday my husband and I could spend with our son and grandson since the pandemic and we couldn't have chosen a better place to spend it! The Oast House is highly recommended and we would definitely stay again.

Recommended!!!
My partner and I spent a long weekend here for a quiet country getaway. This place was absolutely perfect with everything you could possibly need. It was cute and very comfortable and the little extras provided were an additional nice touch. It was a joy to come back to each day after our time spent out and about. We will definitely be recommending it to friends. Daphne was always just a text msg away to answer any queries. If you are looking for a quiet country break, this is the place to go.

Lovely Quiet Break
We had a lovely quiet break in this beautiful, comfortable oast house. The accomodation has everything you could need and there are some very thoughtful extras in the kitchen, including a welcome pack. The oast's garden is lovely - peaceful and beautiful, with a delightful mix of trees and plants. It was really enjoyable walking around the farm and getting to know the cheeky young cows, who are very friendly and inquisitive. There is a lot of meadowland and as a consequence loads of lovely bees, butterflies and other insects. This is a really nice place to stay for nature lovers, I even saw a little herd if deer. I will definitely be booking the oast again.

About the neighbourhood
The historic village of Mayfield was at its height during the boom in the Wealden iron industry, and many of the fine houses date from that time. Both village and church are said to have been founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, St Dunstan, in 960 CE, and there are legends surrounding his connection with the village. There is an array of shops on Mayfield High Street, as well as three pubs: the Middle House (in the High Street), the Carpenters Arms and the Rose and Crown (both in Fletching Street). The renowned Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts is a biennial event that takes place in May and attracts world class performers.Royal Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within easy reach.
