A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) There are 60 acres of rolling farmland to explore, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. This unique self-catering property has been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard to ensure a comfortable stay. The property is situated on a secluded and very quiet country lane and has a private driveway. The enclosed private garden is safe for children. When exploring the farm, care should be taken near ponds, wells, the bordering stream and of course the animals! You will have the use of your own private garden with BBQ facilities. Due to the fact that this is a working farm with livestock, regrettably we cannot allow dogs...A lovely little traditional Oast House on owners' 17th century working farm.Beef cattle graze the fields in summer( but are no longer always overwintered.) Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Peaceful oasis in the heart of the countryside. Perfect for families.
We rented this cottage as a base to visit family during lockdown. It was perfect as there is so much space that we could easily meet up outside. The garden is spacious and enclosed, so safe for children to run around. The cottage is much bigger than I imagined, and plenty of space for our teens to have their own 'corners'. Everything you need is provided and Daphne also gives a welcome package with local produce, which was a lovely surprise :) There are a number of lovely walks in the area - I would advise bringing a proper map because it's a maze of footpaths and Google maps was not much help!! My family visited us there (well, the garden), and were also really impressed by The Oast. We had a lovely time - thank you Daphne!

Relaxing
Feel relaxed and refreshed after being in Daphne's Oast house set in beautiful East Sussex. Our only complaint is we had to come home. This idyllic 19th century Oast house had everything we needed with nearby Mayfield providing daily provisions and Tunbridge Wells only 10 miles away providing everything else. We enjoyed walking around the local area, bird watching and star gazing . Would love to return one day to investigate inside historical places when more restrictions have lifted . We were blessed with the weather which helped enormously . Blue skies and sunshine greeted us every day. Thank you for everything,Daphne.

Fantastic English Countryside Retreat
We had an amazing stay at the Oast. This was our intro to the English countryside and we had booked the Oast to complete our 10 day covid- self isolation after an international travel. Every window of the cottage gave us fantastic views of the countryside. The cottage itself is equipped with all the basic amenities you need - washing machine, kettle, toaster, oven, fridge, TV, microwave, WIFI and a modern hob. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and serve. It had a welcoming touch with the fresh bread and milk and hot cross buns kept for our use. The cottage is also well stocked with a collection of books and games for a rainy day. Daphne is a non intrusive host and available just a call away. We enjoyed our brief interactions with her when she would drop our mail or deliveries. Tips - Do pack your wellies for long walks in the grass. Car is handy for trips to the grocery store. We used Ocado services for grocery shopping as most of the others were not delivering to that postcode. Prebook deliveries as you may not get slots when you need them. Uber Eats, Deliveroo etc are not an option here. Overall we loved our stay and would definitely recommend it to our friends and family. In fact we are already planning a rendezvous with our friends from India when we are safe from Covid.

Peaceful Retreat
We had a lovely peaceful stay in this Oast house, no road noise 😊. It was lovely to sit in the garden late afternoon and read. Very handy for visiting many of the houses and gardens in the area, Hever Castle is well worth a visit and we enjoyed outdoor dining at cote in Royal Tunbridge Wells and the many cafes. Daphne left us to it, we saw her from a distance so knew if we had any issues we could contact her. The Oast had internet connection and a well stocked kitchen and we arrived to extras of wine, fruit and biscuits. We definitely recommend and would return as there is still so much to explore in the local area.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful setting
The Oast is set amongst rolling Sussex fields, opposite traditional farm buildings dating back to the 17th century, and with a lovely, sizeable garden of its own: the photos don’t do it justice! It’s a beautiful, peaceful setting, and the cottage itself is very comfortable and well equipped. Daphne is a great hostess and provided lots of lovely local treats and farm produce, so there was plenty to enjoy for our first breakfast. The Oast has two bedrooms, one a large room in the round part of the building with a king-size double, and one a smaller room with a single bed and pull-out second bed. There’s a bathroom which has a bath with a good shower in it downstairs. The area is beautiful and offers lots of attractions: historic villages, castles, stately homes, gardens, beaches, woodland and walks. I definitely recommend it!

Delightful oast
We have come back thoroughly refreshed from several days at the gorgeous oast. If you like character and charm and don’t mind going very slowly on the final access road as the camber is raised, you will be in paradise. That actually means you get away from all road noise. Extremely helpful hosts very unobtrusive Yet they have thought of everything. The garden is a pretty orchard and the walks are really enjoyable. The cottage itself is so cute and it represents good value for money. The cottage is in easy reach of several delightful places to visit such as Tunbridge Wells and Scotney castle. We also took in Battle Abbey, Rye and Camber Sands. King size Bed very comfortable.

Restful
This is a wonderful little hideaway, under 2 hours' drive from London. We found the oast house was very well stocked with locally produced eggs, butter, milk and bread. The rooms were airy and light. Other essentials had also been provided by Daphne, the owner. We had a beautiful view from every angle as the property is located on a farm. We found the residents very helpful and friendly. Particularly when I got my car stuck in trying to do a sharp left. Three different SUV drivers stopped to give me a helping hand! A word of warning avoid that sharp left into Argos Hill Road. Turn your car around and slip in from the right. Despite the fact it rained for most of our stay, we found plenty to do walking, visiting Mayfield and just lazing about at the Oast House. Definitely a place to revisit.

About the neighbourhood
The historic village of Mayfield was at its height during the boom in the Wealden iron industry, and many of the fine houses date from that time. Both village and church are said to have been founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury, St Dunstan, in 960 CE, and there are legends surrounding his connection with the village. There is an array of shops on Mayfield High Street, as well as three pubs: the Middle House (in the High Street), the Carpenters Arms and the Rose and Crown (both in Fletching Street). The renowned Mayfield Festival of Music and the Arts is a biennial event that takes place in May and attracts world class performers.Royal Tunbridge Wells, Eastbourne and Brighton are all within easy reach.
