Ringwood, New Forest, Hampshire, England
Situated on the edge of the historic market town of Ringwood, Avon Accommodation can be found above the Old Cottage Restaurant, which is one of the oldest most painted and photographed buildings in Ringwood, dating back many centuries. The path of the river Avon embraces the garden on its way to the sea at Christchurch. The market place and town centre with its many shops, pubs and restaurants are a few minutes walk.

The suites are full of charm and character, sympathetically restored and refurbished offering high quality accommodation. Due to the age and nature of the property there are uneven floors, narrow steep stairs, some very low beams and door heights, so please mind your head! Strictly non smoking.

Stayed here on a long weekend for three nights with my spouse and our 2 year old girl. Our main point of the visit was to come down and take our 2 year old to peppa pig world. This place was only 20 minutes away so was ideal. Set in a lovely little village with a good range of restaurants and shops. Underneath Avon Mist is a lovely restaurant which we didn't get a chance to eat in but looked very nice. On arrival quite late on the Friday night we were greeted by a very friendly lady in the bar who explained where we were staying and where to collect the key. To get to Avon Mist you have to enter through the bar area into a door at side of the bar a little bit strange to start with but in the end it was no problem. The room itself is exactly how it looks on the pictures and as described. Very old feel with beams and floors that slope. Lots and lots of character. Once settled in we never really encountered anyone else from the restaurant and were left to get on with things which was...

This one was a bit different! On the top floor of a restaurant, which meant you went through the restaurant to get to your accommodation. Not sure if I would have been comfortable dragging my luggage through the patrons if it has been open when we arrived. The accommodation itself was what would be expected of a cottage this age, however the access steps were not for the faint hearted and relied on a hand rope to assist on the downward journey as the steps were very steep and no hand rail. The floors were very uneven and the head of the bed faced down the slope of the floor. An interesting place to stay and only a very short walk up the street to find shops, restaurants or pubs. All in all, we quite enjoyed our stay in this old thatched roof cottage.

About the neighbourhood
Situated in the South of England, in the county of Hampshire, Ringwood is a smalll market town in the New Forest area. The Forest and immediate surrounding area was given National Park status in March 2005 in recognition of the many qualities that the Forest holds. It is Britain's smallest National Park being approximately 145 square miles in size and once a royal hunting ground for King William I and his noblemen, in the 12th century AD.

The rare blend of open heathlands and ancient woodlands makes the New Forest a unique and very special place, the underlying features of which have changed little over the centuries. There are a wide variety of landscapes, from hills and heaths, forest and downland, rivers and streams, water meadows and woodland... all for you to explore.

How to get there
Travelling from Southampton, Bournemouth or Poole leave the dual carriageway at the Ringwood exit and follow the signs for Ringwood on the large roundabout. Once you have left this roundabout you will be on a short dual carriageway leading to a smaller roundabout where you should get into the offside lane as you approach. Take the 3rd turning off this smaller roundabout and you will see public car parks on your right and left. You will then approach a very small roundabout with Waitrose in front of you. You need to turn left here and Waitrose will now be on your right and a public car park is on your left. Continue to follow the road past Waitrose and you will see Meeting House Lane (a narrow single cobbled type lane) on your right. Take this road (with bike shop - Motor Biz - on corner)... more
