Fantastic retreat in Northumberland countryside
If you love the outdoors and are looking for a quiet retreat away from the hustle and bustle of town with amazing views to the countryside and luxury accommodation this is the perfect place to enjoy as a base for numerous and differing day trips and activities, inparticular countryside walking or road cycling.
A 2-bedroom house with a lovely, cosy garden room acting as a 3rd double bedroom with ensuite is pitched in a marvellous position to afford long-range views to the Northumbrian hills. There is a useful utility room for you to kick off your muddy boots and dry wet-weather gear should you need it. This house really does have a bit of everything to offer.
The garden is beautifully landscaped by Kate, the Proprietor, with her own fair hands. She appears to work diligently with great kindness and an eye for finer details to create a peaceful and stylish haven for her guests. The garden area is privately located at the rear of the house and. again, stretches into the open countryside leaving you with a feeling of endless and far-reaching space to help you escape from 'the world'. There is a decking area for those social evenings if a BBQ is on the house menu or simply for quiet relaxation in the open air.
The house is 'upside-down' so the bedrooms and bathroom are on the ground floor; the kitchen/diner and lounge with log-burner are on the first floor so the elevated position of the living accommodation means you get to enjoy the views to the maximum. The kitchen/diner has everything you would need to dine in for any meal during the day, and there is comfortable social seating in the dining section making it perfect for that open-plan living we have become accustomed to. Whether you are a family of a group of friends, you can cook, eat and socialise in the generous space that is the kitchen/diner.
I cannot thank Kate enough for her warmth and friendliness in making us all feel so welcome. She provides and maintains this stunning venue to such a high standard I will definitely return to this little gem. I loved my long-weekend stay which felt like a week away by the time i found myself weaving along the Northumberland roads to go home. I cannot recommend this property enough - a must to stay in. Thank you again.

An escape to pure bliss!
Just what the senses ordered...a break away from all the chaos of everyday family life, with something for everyone to enjoy.
You cannot fail to be impressed with the house and it's immediate surroundings - beautifully landscaped and immaculately presented.
While the 'kids' (big and small!) spent time playing in the woods and fishing in the stream, I had the pleasure of indulging in a Thai Yoga Massage - HIGHLY recommended!
A luxurious house with gorgeous views where you can wake and listen to birds singing and the distant hum of farm life...bliss! Returning is a must.

Best Ever!
A truly great holiday home. We came as a group of 7 adults over Easter and were ALL comfortable, private and had plenty of room to sit, eat, cook and play; as well as sleep. We have stayed in a great many cottages over many years and yet this is probably the best of all- because of the finishing and details- as well as the space and the view. We took trips to Kielder, Hadrian's Wall and as far as Lindisfarne Priory, as well as a rugby match in Newcastle. And of course local walks. So it is near enough to everything too!

A perfect cottage for exploring Northumbria
This was a perfect cottage for exploring Northumbria and the border regions.
The cottage was part of a working farm in a remote Northumbriam location. The views from the cottage are fantastic and we regularly woke up to the sounds of birds, sheep and the whistle of the farmer calling his dogs.
The cottage itself was very well fitted with 3 nice sized bedrooms 2 of which can be double or single. 3 bathrooms (2 shower 1 bath) and a well laid out kitchen. We arrived to find a lovely vase of flowers from the garden and a plate of cupcakes. Very nice.
The only 2 faults, both of which are very minor, were the location of the Microwave which was in the utility room and that the washing machine had no tumble drier.

Wonderful welcoming stay
We stayed in The Granary Easter week. We were thoroughly spoilt by fantastic weather and great accommodation, we loved the quirky upside down layout of the well equipped cottage (including big bath towels which scored major brownie points!).
We also liked being near the working farm - especially as it was lambing season
Would definitely recommend The Granary and will book again in the future

Fantastic
This apartment is very quirky, upside down house (bedrooms on the ground floor living are on 1st floor) that has lots of charm and character.
Views to die for, so peaceful, bleating of lambs in the fields , birds in the trees. It simply is a place to relax and get away from the stresses and strains of life.
Then there is the huge bonus...it's located in a Dark skies area, simply, watch a thousand stars on a clear night, it is truly an experience that you will never forget, quite amazing. There is a hut besides the apartment and is a fantastic place to cuddle up with your loved one, relax and take in a wonderful view.

Just the ticket for rest and relaxation
We booked our weekend at the Granary on fairly short notice and we were very happy that we had. The Granary provided us with the peace and quiet that we were looking for as well as offering gorgeous views across rolling countryside hills. Kate [the owner] is very nice and lets you get on with your stay but is available should you need advice on anything. The garden is very well appointed and has the added benefit of an excellent sun-room complete with en-suite facilities. Old Town Farm itself is nicely located for exploring rural Northumberland with the majority of interesting towns and attractions radiating out within a 30-40 minute drive. We will definitely be returning when we can [maybe to try out one of the other cottages on the farm] and would happily recommend the Granary to our friends and family. Thanks Kate for a lovely weekend!

Great Place to Stay in Northumberland
We were looking for a place to stay for our first visit to Northumberland and we found and The Granary through Owners Direct. We thought the cottage looked nice on the web and when we arrived we were not disappointed.
The cottage has been refurbished to a high modern standard and has the living room/kitchen diner upstairs. We sat in the kitchen diner for the most part taking full advantage of the wonderful views of the surrounding countryside.
The Granary is comfortable and well appointed with all you need for a relaxing stay. We only stayed for a few days and didn't have the time to sit out, we wished we had time to use the wonderful summer house, but that will have to wait for next time.
Kate was great giving us a warm welcome, making sure we were comfortable and providing nice cheese scones for us upon arrival.
There are so many things to do in the area, we visited Alnwick Castle, Wallington Hall, Woodhorn Colliery & Museum (County Archives are there), Hadrian's Wall - Sycamore Gap and had a quick drive into Scotland returning via Kielder Water, phew an energetic few days!
We will definitely return to The Granary when we next visit Northumberland. Thank you Kate!

Granary Cottage is truly wonderful, a really lovely place to stay. Quiet, peaceful, fantastic extensive views, away from it all. The cottage is spacious, nicely furnished, comfortable, convenient and scrupulously clean. Situated on a working farm. The owner Kate lives on the farm and was very welcoming, friendly and helpful but by no means intrusive. I can't recommend it highly enough. We wished we could have stayed longer. It was a lovely holiday and we hope to go back one day. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with this lovely holiday cottage.
