About the neighbourhood
Porlock is a beautiful coastal village in South West England, situated in a deep hollow on Exmoor. It adjoins a Porlock Ridge and Saltmarsh nature reserve which has now been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A picturesque, wooded combe called Hawkcombe leads about three miles from the village up to high open moorland. The stream from Hawkcombe runs past The Cleeve. The South West Coast Path goes through Porlock. There is also a Coleridge Way walk. Culbone church is said to be the smallest church in England. There is an ancient stone circle on the hill. The area has links with several Romantic poets, and R. D. Blackmore the author of Lorna Doone.
Getting around
Most people can probably park the car and leave it there for the whole holiday as there's loads to do within walking distance. Hopping in the car will massively expand the possibilities. We're still finding new things all the time, 10 years later!
