My family (2 adults and 2 kids aged 13 and 17) have just had a wonderful stay at Birchope Byre. The cottage is small but has everything you need and more. It's up a half mile track so off the beaten track and although it's next door to the owners' house we did not see them once during our week-long stay. There are fantastic walks right on the doorstep (including a great one to a local pub) and the view from the hill behind the cottage has to be one of the best in England. Highly recommended and we hope to go back someday.

Gorgeous cottage set in beautiful surroundings. The cottage is done to a very high standard and was very welcoming and exceptionally clean .The bathroom is to die for! There are 2 sets of stairs which are are open plan that lead to the bedrooms. The stairs could do with a handrail as I personally found them quite difficult to climb. I have joint problems and a handrail would have made them a bit easier to manage.Alison, our host, was so friendly and made us feel at home.
The surrounding countryside is amazing with stunning rural views in every direction.Views of the Stiperstones can be seen from the cottage garden.
If you're looking for a peaceful haven off the beaten track then this is THE place to be!

Management response:

Thank you for your lovely comments, it was a pleasure to have you staying with us. We will look into improving the handrail situation, giving extra support to complement the exisiting rail between the stairs and adding a rail for the bottom 3 steps. So glad you enjoyed your visit to Shropshire.

About the neighbourhood
Birchope Byre is situated 14 miles south of Shrewsbury in The South Shropshire Hills, an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' that many people have yet to discover, so is ideal for a relaxing holiday without the crowds, yet with plenty to do. The stunning upland moorland of the Long Mynd is spectacular when the heather is in full bloom, and the drive over The Burway from Birchope Byre in Ratlinghope to the 'Little Switzerland' of Church Stretton is unforgetable. While there, visit the National Trust Carding Mill Valley where children (and adults!) can play in the stream, walk to the Light Spout waterfall and enjoy teas and ice creams in the Pavillion cafe. Not far away is Acton Scott Farm museum featured on the BBC t.v. programme.<BR>To the west of Birchope Byre the r... more
