Beautifully renovated and restored 1892 Lair Hill Mansion with spacious decks offering views of the Cascades. Top floor unit features a grand living room, a large master bedroom suite, two decks, a sunspace, and a quirky shower with partial views of Mt. Hood. My house is an original Portland mansion from 1892. It was divided in the 80s into 3 separate units. This unit (3304) is mostly on the top level of the house. It has been rented out long term since January and will be available again to short term guests beginning June 2016. The main living area of this unit is the former attic. It has been transformed into a unique space with a massive built-in sofa and offers views of the cascades out the large french doors that lead to the main deck. The unit has a second partially shaded deck off the master suite. Throughout the unit you will find interesting details like the triangular shower with windows facing Mt. Hood or the raised dais of the bed space in the master suite. A number of the windows in the foyer are original stain glass from the late 1800s. I have just completed a number of repairs and updates to the unit, so you may note the redone window seat area at the top of the stairs or the new shade structure on the 2nd deck. Prior to this, the house was last renovated in the 80s, so you may note a funky vibe from that era. One of the funky design choices is that the master suite (bedroom and bathroom) is an entirely open space. There is no door to separate the bedroom from the bathroom. Unit 3304 includes 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 1 'bonus room' with a queen size bed, 2 decks, a washer and dryer, a large living room space, a dining room, a large window seat, and a small desk area for working. You will also have access to one guest parking pass. You will need to use that parking pass during the work week as my house is in a 2 hour area. The 2 hour limit ends after 6pm. Please DO NOT FORGET TO PUT THE PARKING PASS BACK IN THE HOUSE! Do not drive off with the parking pass. Please leave it on the dish in the middle of the dining room table. It's a lovely, comfortable, and certainly distinctive home. I love it and I hope you will too. House Rules: I just purchased and renovated this house. It is the first house I have ever owned, so please be very respectful of it and treat it as if it was your own home. Please also be respectful of the neighbors and keep noise after 10pm and upon arrival to a minimum. Similarly, do NOT throw PARTIES at the house. Be cognizant of the noise you make on the decks. My neighbors can easily hear you from the decks, so noise must be kept to a minimum after 10pm. I am able to offer free parking at the house with the use of a parking pass. You will receive a door code shortly before your stay in addition to an invite to download the August Smart Lock app which you can use to unlock and lock the door. This is all you need to access the house as the main entryway has a keypad and an electronic smart lock. There is also a security camera at the front door connected to the lock. I may or may not be able to meet you in person. This is my home, but I travel for work quite frequently. At a minimum, I will be happy to speak to you over the phone and answer any questions you might have. I will do my best to answer as many questions as possible here. I am, of course, happy to get to know all of my guests. I'd be delighted to help you enjoy your time in Portland.

About the neighbourhood
Lair Hill is a historic and lovely residential neighborhood that sits on the slope of the hill below the Oregon Health and Sciences University Hospital. For those of you visiting the hospital, the house could not be more conveniently located. The neighborhood is a bit of an island of tranquility formed by I-5 and SW Naito Parkway. It is very verdant with trees covering the streets and lovely gardens all around. Ross Island Grocery and Cafe is a delightful coffee shop and cafe just a block and a half down the street. I often have breakfast there. There are many delicious food trucks, a tap house, pizzeria, Blue Star Donust, and a bakery just over the Gibbs street foot bridge in the South Waterfront area.
Getting around
You can walk to the southern part of downtown in about 15 minutes. To get downtown from the house I recommend walking over the Gibbs Street footbridge over I-5 just below the house and then grab the NS street car to downtown. It costs $2 and gets you downtown in about 15 minutes. There is a Nike City Bike Share bike stand just across the footbridge by the tram. You can rent bikes there, take the bike paths to anywhere in the city. The Tillikum Bridge makes it a snap to get to SE. You can also take bus route 43, the stop is right in front of the house, to the Portland City Center area and walk further downtown from there. That takes about 10 to 15 minutes as well. You can also take the street car to the MAX and then to the Airport.
