Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our favourite dog friendly getaway!
I think this is our fifth visit to Rough Top Cottage, and we always have a lovely relaxing time - the week went too quickly! We arrived to a table full of complimentary treats and toys for our two Spaniels, and fresh coffee, biscuits, etc for us. Sandra and Brian always go the extra mile to make us feel at home and make our stay extra special. Our two dogs, Poppy and Mabel, loved roaming in the paddock and the garden - their little faces light up when we arrive! We had some wonderful walks to the nearby bridestones and waterfall - the views are unbelievable, and it was warm enough to enjoy sitting in the garden to watch the sunset. I've stayed in places that tolerate dogs, but we love Rough Top because they are really passionate about providing a high quality experience for both dogs and owners.

Perfect place to get away from it all
Recently returned from my third stay at Rough Top – and I still love it! A lovely location with a patio looking out across the Calder Valley so you can watch the weather passing by and the sheep in the fields. There are great walks from the house to the Bride Stones, Redmires Dam and, if you’re fit and can face the walk back up, down into Todmorden. Remote enough to ‘get away from it all’ but close enough to Hebden Bridge, Todmorden and Burnley to be convenient for shopping, eating out and some local sightseeing. The cottage has a kitchen (newly fitted-out since my last stay) with a proper kitchen table big enough to entertain friends and family, three comfortable bedrooms and a living room for just lounging about. A sunny patio, an enclosed garden and plenty of off-road parking make it an ideal place to entertain visitors, look around the Calder Valley or just relax and spend some quiet time. The house owners, Sandra and Brian, live just down the road, so are on hand in case of emergency. They are unfailingly friendly, welcoming and helpful without being at all intrusive. The house and garden are well looked-after and the house is always spotless. Fresh flowers and a welcome pack in the kitchen on arrival. I can’t wait to come back again.

Mr
We had a fabulous time at the cottage. The welcome pack was a lovely surprise. The private gated garden had beautiful views. The added bonus was the enclosed field attached to house to run the dog in. First time I’ve ever been on a holiday with dogs were blankets were provided to go on the settee and the beds for the dogs to lie on We cooked full meals every night in the kitchen as we could relax then without eating out in the evening Visited Halifax and Hebden bridge which I loved Thank you

Cosy, relaxing dog-friendly retreat
Visited this cottage twice and we just LOVE it! We felt right at home, especially as the dog was made to feel so welcome (which is REALLY important to us as we won't go away without her). All rooms are beautifully decorated - it feels like a traditional cosy farmhouse cottage but with all the mod-cons (power shower, dishwasher, washing machine, smart TV and central heating). We just love to snuggle up in front of the log fire, especially after a long walk on the moors. My dog was well looked after, with plenty of blankets and a box with spare poo bags, shampoo, toys, bowls, etc. that really makes life easier if you run out of anything. The location is ideal for a peaceful, relaxing escape. Right on the tops, surrounded by moors, rocks and woodland that we had great fun exploring. Been twice now and we can't wait to return next year.

Wow - Spectacular Views
Just returned from a fabulous weekend at Rough Top Cottage. Arrived in the dark and fog, to a fabulous warm and welcoming cottage. Amazing welcome package with tea, coffee, milk, a bottle of prosecco and hand baked dog treats. Woke in the morning to the most spectacular views across the valley. The cottage is well furnished and dogs are so welcome it is a pet owners paradise. I had to cancel my booking a couple of times due to COVID and then a family emergency but the owner, Sandra, was so helpful and accommodating. Brilliant place and such lovely owners. Highly recommend.

Perfect, Pet friendly Cost Cottage
The cottage is perfectly located to be away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Hebden Bridge, but within easy travelling distance by car when you want to visit there and other beautiful villages and locations. This is a fabulous, dog friendly cottage and we were made to feel so welcome by Sandra. The patio and garden area give stunning views across the valley. Our dog Fudge enjoyed the Doggy Paddock for his morning exercise and we loved all the little extra thoughts given to making it a wonderful pet friendly holiday (loved the doggy blankets). The cottage provides everything needed for a perfect holiday break. We hope to be back.

A well appointed cottage for five people with panoramic views.
This location was ideal for our needs; visiting relatives in the local area. Sandra (the owner) could not have been more helpful with guidance through the current Covid regulations and also providing a starter pack. Rough Top Cottage was clean and spacious. It was well equipped with all the mod.cons. We found it convenient for exploring Hardcastle Crags, Lumb Falls, Stoodley Pike and Bolton Abbey. The weather was fantastic!

Wonderful country cottage
We absolutely loved Rough Top Cottage, the location is amazing and perfect for a quiet rural getaway. The cottage itself is so homely and had all the amenities we needed to enjoy our stay. Would highly recommend it and definitely planning to revisit next year. Sandra was always available for anything we needed and was super professional and friendly.
