The Great Unmet Potential Part II
Let me update you with the 2022 review:
I read the first review, but my in laws had already booked this location. Here is how it went. Before I even go inside, the owner rolls up on my truck like it's a drive by. Yells at me asking if I know "Uncle Smith". I do not know this person but I walk over asking if I can help. She says she is the owner and to only call her and NOT Edisto Realty if there are problems. She wants my phone number in case she needs to reach us. I'm hoping it's some South Carolina hospitality, but I haven't even been inside the home yet. She says "I've been working to get it ready all afternoon". I'm thinking great, owner taking initiative. Nothing to worry about. But then she asks if we have kids or pets. "Been having a lot of problems with pets and kids. I really hate kids." My four year old hops out of my truck. Now I'm irritated and she's says one final line, "It's grandma's house and we are keeping it just like she wanted." She peeled out before anything else could be said.
It's like all the signs were there, but it just didn't click for me because it was all so bizarre. I enter the home which I can now rename as "The House of 100 Chairs" or "Grandma's Antique Shop". The other review nails pretty much everything, but I'd like to add a few things:
Negatives (Overall No Maintenance):
- Dirty (dusty chairs, tables, decorations, floor)
- Falling ceiling tiles (moisture from A/C and poorly insulated attic)
- Front deck has unsafe landing falling apart. One corner of the landing is lower than the other three
- Back deck has unsafe railing falling apart
- Stinks especially in the basement like wet dog
- There are literally 79 chairs in the home with another 20 outside. I counted because you may as well trip over them in every room of this home. Nearly all are dated and uncomfortable. All these places to sit, but nothing worth sitting in.
- "Decorations" are uncomfortably odd and out of touch. It's just junk everywhere. I mean EVERYWHERE. Grandma went to every yard sale in the area to get these. My four year old asked if we could move some of the creepy dolls because it was scaring him.
- Clutter: It's an open home cluttered with pictures, plates, cups, dog heads, rabbits, birds, a giant shark, dolls, etc thrown up on the walls. There is literally no real estate in the home that isn't covered with some sort of crap. There are chests, boxes, and drawers full of useless items like candles, thumbtacks, extra placemats, doll dresses, old blankets that smell, etc.
- Dishwasher: It's loud and makes a grinding noise because the bearings are completely shot. It's like Goku is charging up his Kamehameha for 3 hours.
- Grime: Everything has a film of disgusting dirt everywhere. The dated kitchen, the floors, the counters, the bathrooms, sinks, tile floors are all so old it would be difficult to get them clean. Years of use and no maintenance have not served this home well.
- So much potential and the owners are just enjoying the rent they get for this racket. it's unreal how full of junk this home has. It would take 3 full size dumpsters to get rid of items inside this home.
Positives:
- Walking distance to the beach is less than 30 seconds
- Open room that can accommodate a large family
- The beds did sleep pretty well
One small note: Despite the owner hating kids and pets, the entire refrigerator was covered with pictures of children, presumably kids of the owner's family. Why the hate if you have so many kids in your own family posted for everyone to see?
Final verdict:
Much like the previous reviewer, we rent every year at Edisto Beach. This one was was the worst because of the lack of upkeep, not kid-friendly, not upkept, and it simply lacks any effort of owners that care about the home. Please don't waste your time and find another location to stay at.

Great Unmet Potential
This home has so much potential--but it is unmet. When we arrived before ever coming inside we noticed the unkempt appearance of the entire place. Maintenance for this home seems almost non-existent. The railing, steps, and handrail out front are unsafe. Walking through the door the distinct smell of dampness is evident. We are still here and hoped to wait until the end of the week to review, but decided it wasn't going to get any better. There are some positives ---the home is HUGE and will accommodate a large group. The beds sleep pretty good and the location is as good as it gets (when not beach front)...all those things are great. The home is very dirty. The furniture, besides being terribly worn out and uncomfortable, is dirty. The 'decor' is beyond odd...we could get past all the stuff (looks like every family member contributed worn out furniture) if the furniture was clean and comfortable. Seriously the place is soooo full of junk that its tough to relax because all of the junk is so distracting. There are large windows at the front but you don't notice for all the junk. The faucet in the master bathroom was disgusting! The kitchen cabinets were nasty (sticky, dirty) its really a shame because this home has tons of potential. I wonder if this place REALLY has no reviews or if they are getting erased . I really wanted to love this place. I LOVE the room, the location, and the potential it has. All the homes surrounding this home look kept up...this one looks forgotten like the furniture inside the home. I usually try to temper a bad review...but the owners are enjoying the rent they receive but they obviously are not investing enough in upkeep. -- We rent in Edisto every year. This one has been the worst.
