The house is set in a tranquil location overlooking Loch na Muilne on Great Bernera.

The house won the best architect designed house in the Outer Hebrides Design Awards 2016, beating other houses built in 2014 and 15

The site is framed by the loch in front of the house and the ridge behind, providing a picturesque setting and shelter from the weather. Golden eagles often nest half way up the ridge. As you walk up the site, the loch opens up, revealing its 'H' shape and small island in the middle. About the neighbourhood
Bernera is on the west side of Lewis, surrounded by Loch Roag. It;s joined to Lewis by a road bridge which was built in 1953. There is good access to the tourist attractions on the west coast and around Uig. Stornoway is a 40 minute drive.Bernera has a number of local attractions. Bosta beach is a large white beach but with good sheltered spots, fabulous views of outlying islands and a time and tide bell which is rung by the rise of the tide at high water. At the rear of the beach is a replica Iron Age House similar to those uncovered by storms in 1993. The house is staffed by local volunteers and supported by donations.The main settlement is at Breaclete and within walking distance of Breaclete is a restored Norse mill. Lewis is accessible by air and sea. Flights are with Flybe from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness.

There is a direct Calmac ferry to Stornoway from Ullapool which takes about 2.5 hours. It is also possible to take a ferry to one of the other Hebridean Islands and drive up through Harris.

Car hire is available in Stornoway at the airport or ferry terminal.
