Perfect for a week in Devon
We arrived after a tiring journey from London to find a well appointed comfortable house with a beautiful garden in a wonderful part of Devon. The house had everything we needed, with an interesting collection of books, cds, objets d'arts, which greatly enhanced the pleasure of being here. Beds comfortable, kitchen well equipped and good pressure in the shower. Walks from the door were all enjoyable (we did five out of the six), and Dinner at the Gidleigh Park Hotel was excellent. All in all guess it should be on our "must return" list. Our dog enjoyed the holiday too.

Perfect Retreat
We had a superb week at this well appointed cottage which has a delightful setting. The cottage itself is very spacious and provided ample room for us and our 13 year old daughter to spread out. Lovely walks from the door for the dogs. We are frequent visitors to this area but still found some new recommendations for eating, walks and excursions in the helpful info pack provided by the owners online but also in the cottage. Returned to The Three Crowns in their first week of opening post Covid and, as ever, were not disappointed. Very pleased to also see the Ring o' Bells in North Bovey is open again after their fire last year.

Beautiful quiet countryside retreat
One Gidleigh Park is an ideal holiday rental for those seeking countryside walks, quiet location and relaxation with birdsong as the main background. During our week we saw a deer in the surrounding bluebell wood which was a treat. The property is designed to a very high standard, with a fully equipped kitchen, luxury bathrooms and beautiful finishing touches. We were fortunate to have a week of sunshine as an added bonus, which enabled lots of walks with our cocker spaniel. We did find the long single track to the property challenging with meeting cars driving in the opposite direction, some who were driving faster than expected and finding a pull in to enable both cars to pass. Overall a very relaxing week in a beautiful property and location which we would highly recommended to others.

Tastefully modernized bungalow. Great location for walking
We presently live in California but lived nearby when I was young. We come back every year and usually stay in Warcleave Cottage. One Gidleigh Park is definitely much nicer. It has been modernized to a high standard and has everything you could need including a wood burning stove. There several good walks starting nearby. The scenery is very picturesque especially in September. Chagford is about 1 1/2 miles away. We usually walk in. There are several good restaurants and pubs there including the Chagford Inn. For it’s size Chagford has excellent shops including fresh meat, bread, pastries, cheese,a delicatessen and of course the hardware store which has been there a long time. The only negative was that after living in California for many years I did find backing up when meeting another vehicle in the narrow lane a bit challenging

Thanks very much for your kind words Nigel. It's great that you love the area and I'm glad that you have found somewhere that you like to stay. Yes the lane is narrow but we feel that Devon would not be Devon without the lanes! We look forward to seeing you again in the future at some point maybe. All the Best, Adam

Nature on your doorstep
Adam and Stephens place is in a lovely spot where different animals and birds visit the garden all the time. It is a very welcoming and beautifully appointed house with all the creature comforts one could want for a short or long stay. Our elderly parents loved the view of the forest when they woke up in the morning with their bedroom door open. We would love to have stayed for a longer period so that we could have spent a bit more time just enjoying relaxing at the house.Chagford is a lovely little village with some really good places to eat and is only a couple of miles from the house. Hopefully we will be back one day.

Fully relaxed week away
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. We arrived to an clean, fresh and welcoming environment with a lovely note and basket of local produce. I'm a keen cook and was able to keep us fed well in the beautiful kitchen which appeared to have every utensil and professional looking appliance you could possibly need. During the week we saw two beautiful deer who decided to eat from the vegetable patch in the garden (which was full of lovely looking veg along with the fruit trees in the front). The bed was very comfortable and ensured a good week worth of sleep. The local area was friendly and we also took advantage of the 2 Michelin star restaurant within 5 minutes walk from us to experience some fine dining. All in all, a very pleasent get away!

Beautiful, has everything
A beautifully updated residence just 1.5 miles from civilisation (Chagford), but remote enough to feel like you're really in the countryside. We had a deer in the garden one day, and another day another one, who stayed for ages! The back garden is open onto woodland! There is another residence next door that I was not aware of until arriving as the pictures seem to indicate it is secluded. It was only an issue one day when the neighbours were outside all day, making a lot of noise, so the peace and tranquillity was spoiled. Very well appointed and everything is set out to be easy, comfortable, and convenient. Definitely follow Adam's directions and go to Chagford, then down the road as advised. The same going out, as the other way is very challenging.

Thanks for your kind words. My elderly parents live in the cottage next door and maybe they were having a get together outside in the sun with their friends that day. They are normally very well behaved and quiet! I hope that that occasion did not spoil your stay too much. We are glad that you loved the place and we hope to see you again in the future. Best, Adam

One word - perfect!
Well what can I say? We’ve been home for less than 24 hours and we’re missing Devon and One Gidleigh Park badly! The house is gorgeous..beautifully furnished, stunning garden and so so peaceful. The surroundings are also wonderful, with walks from the door (but don’t make the mistake we made and do walk 3 on a Monday..The Northmore Arms is closed on Mondays!). Chagford is a great little village with multiple choices for eating and drinking plus a handy supermarket for all your daily needs. We got into the routine of calling into the Three Crowns for a late afternoon drink and wind down after our explorations. It’s a lovely place with friendly staff. Then after arriving back to OGP my treat was to sit in the comfortable chair in the glass room with a G&T and totally chill and relax…bliss! We were lucky with the weather but even though it was raining on our last evening just sitting there and watching the rain fall was a wonderfully calming experience..and seeing a deer wander into the garden made it even more magical. One Gidleigh Park is a truly special place and we can’t recommend it highly enough. Looking forward to returning again as soon as we can.

There is a huge array of things to do in our area. Here is a selection - Walking. There are many restorative walks from our doorstep into the countryside both along the River Teign that run’s through the Gidleigh Park estate and up on to the moor. Dartmoor has 368 square miles of open countryside with Bronze Age settlements, granite stone circles and rows, craggy tors, wild ponies and wooded mossy river gorges. Scorhill Bronze Age Stone Circle Up the lane from Gidleigh on the edge of the moor (easily reached on foot) this is an English Heritage scheduled monument and Devon’s finest stone circle. Walk down to where the River Teign meets the Walla brook and walk over a couple of classic Dartmoor clapper bridges. Grimspound Drive into the moor on the B3212 from Mortonhamstead towards Princetown and explore this Bronze Age settlement of a set of 24 hut circles. Evocative spot. Tennis. There are two public tennis courts in Chagford. Golf. Non-residents can play a round at the 18 hole course at the Bovey Castle Hotel, a 10 minute drive from Chagford. Five Star Country Club at the Bovey Castle. Non residents can use the indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam rooms, jacuzzi, gym and tennis courts. The hotel also offers many separate beauty treatments. Swim. Visit the beautifully situated Chagford Swimming Pool, the largest freshwater heated outdoor pool in Devon. For those after a more private, natural experience go wild swimming in one of the many rivers on Dartmoor. Recommended only during the Summer! Visit a beach. The property is situated in Mid Devon equidistant from the huge Northern wild surf beaches and the beautiful Southern sandy coves including Blackpool Sands. Crackington Haven is the closest beach to the house. Stargaze. Some of the clearest skies in Southern Britain are to be found on Dartmoor. See which constellations and shooting stars you can spot from the deck. Exeter, the regional capital. Visit the regional capital with it’s famous cathedral, museum and Roman ruins. Sample the many shops and restaurants and if you are in the mood take in a drink or meal and a film at the Picturehouse. Castle Drogo. England’s most recently constructed castle. Walk out from it’s spectacular gardens along the Hunters Path and Fingle Gorge. Drop into Dartmoor Prison. This eerie place situated in the middle of Dartmoor has a museum featuring macabre weapons and prisoners’ escape gear. Follow the Warhorse trail. Stephen Spielberg’s blockbuster was filmed on Dartmoor at key Dartmoor beauty spots including Haytor, Warren House Inn and Cadover Bridge. You can also go riding on Dartmoor yourself on a horse from the Babeny Farm Stables in Poundsgate. Go Antiqueing and shopping for local products Ashburton and Topsham are great spots for antiques and Dartington has a fantastic selection of shops including an outlet for the sale of the famous Dartington glass. Visit a Devon Vineyard and the surrounding area. The beautiful Sharpham vineyard overlooking the Dart valley in the South Hams is well worth a visit for a cheese and wine tasting. The crime writer Agatha Christie’s home, Greenway, now a National Trust property open to the public, is a little further down the river. Totnes, an interesting and attractive “alternative” town with it’s own currency is further upstream. Eating out . Devon offers some of the finest seafood, meat and vegetables in Britain.
