Holiday Rental House
Surrounded by it's own beautiful large garden the house is situated at Gidleigh Park in the wooded River Teign valley on rugged Dartmoor. We are at the fringes of the vibrant, attractive village Chagford with all it's amenities. This house is ideal for romantic breaks or 4 friends. The seclusion, privacy and clean air will really appeal to those looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday city life at any time of year. This unusual house in the heart of Devon was originally constructed as the Cook's residence, discreetly located on the estate of the private house that subsequently became the 2 Michelin Starred Gidleigh Park Hotel. Recently lovingly restored and extended the luxury boutique interior now houses a combination of beautiful modern designer and antique furnishings. It's a luxury unique 1920’s single story home ideal for romantic breaks and honeymoons. It’s also suited for two couples or parents with a babe in arms or children over 12 only (there are various risks at the house for young children including low level breakables and some step steps and drops). Two en-suite bedrooms, one with king size double and one with large double bed. Luxury 600 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen, top quality soaps and extremely comfortable beds. Large, well equipped cook's kitchen with dining area and separate utility room. Sitting room with stunning uninterrupted views over garden and fields at the front. Look directly into bluebell woodland from the glassroom at the rear. Spot the deer, foxes, badgers and a myriad of birdlife. Mezzanine office and snug. Logs and kindling provided for two wood-burners in the kitchen and sitting room. The house also has under-floor and radiator oil fired central heating. Private off road parking for up to 3 cars. Beautiful, private one acre sunny garden walled from the lane with wooden decks with tables and chairs at the front and rear of the house. Herbaceous borders and raised vegetable beds and herbs (help yourself when in season). Wifi. Hardwire connections for personal listening devices to two music systems in the kitchen and sitting room. Large TV and DVD player. CD and DVD libraries. Good mobile reception for most networks. Up to 2 small mature dogs (ie not puppies) welcome after prior discussion with the owner. Dog's are strictly not allowed on furniture or to be left in the house unattended. 1.5 miles from Chagford with its handsome 15th and 16th century buildings. Voted best village to live in the UK in the Sunday Times 2015 guide. It has several pubs, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and large range of useful shops including an excellent hardware and moorland clothing shop, butcher, greengrocer and delicatessen. More

We presently live in California but lived nearby when I was young. We come back every year and usually stay in Warcleave Cottage. One Gidleigh Park is definitely much nicer. It has been modernized to a high standard and has everything you could need including...More

A beautifully updated residence just 1.5 miles from civilisation (Chagford), but remote enough to feel like you're really in the countryside. We had a deer in the garden one day, and another day another one, who stayed for ages! The back garden is open onto...More

About the neighbourhood
There is a huge array of things to do in our area. Here is a selection - Walking. There are many restorative walks from our doorstep into the countryside both along the River Teign that run’s through the Gidleigh Park estate and up on to the moor. Dartmoor has 368 square miles of open countryside with Bronze Age settlements, granite stone circles and rows, craggy tors, wild ponies and wooded mossy river gorges. Scorhill Bronze Age Stone Circle Up the lane from Gidleigh on the edge of the moor (easily reached on foot) this is an English Heritage scheduled monument and Devon’s finest stone circle. Walk down to where the River Teign meets the Walla brook and walk over a couple of classic Dartmoor clapper bridges. Grimspound Drive into the moor on the B3212 from Mortonhamstead t...
How to get there
Always go to the property via Chagford and follow the signs to Gidleigh Park Hotel. Ignore your SAT NAV as it will take you via Gidleigh and you will almost certainly get lost in a warren of Devon lanes! We are the first wooden shiplap bungalow behind a high curving drystone wall just before you reach the Gidleigh Park Hotel. BY CAR The M4 from London, the M6 from the North West and the M1/M42 from the North East link up with the M5 to Devon, from where you can join the A30 to Chagford. Turn Right in Chagford Square towards Throwleigh and Gidleigh and the Gidleigh Park Hotel.
