5* Pretty & Peaceful getaway
Having seen the photographs on the Three Pound Cottage website, I was looking forward to the escape and calling Lustleigh "home" for weeks leading up to our arrival. I wasn't disappointed. My first view of the cottage as we walked towards it bathed in afternoon sunshine was a real treat for the eye balls. THE VILLAGE Lustleigh is super beautiful with old buildings kept looking as good as they day they were built. The only sounds you hear are the church bells every hour, bird song and the sound of water running past the cottage. It is not touristy at all and that unspoilt feel is what makes the village so appealing. The local community are really friendly and love to say hello. On Wednesday's, a fish and chip van pulls up outside the dairy, which is excellent if you have been out walking all day and fancy a night off from cooking. They do a cracking battered jumbo sausage! We didn't visit the pub but I'm told the food is excellent there too. We visited Devon for the walking and photography so we weren't in the village during the day, but I would get up early every morning and wander round just taking it all in before breakfast. A fab way to start the day, especially as we were blessed with sun every day! THE COTTAGE The cottage itself has absolutely everything you need. I loved the decor. Country cottage without being overly kitch and in keeping with the building. Obviously we didn't use the inglenook fireplace as it was hot and sunny, but you just know that it would be so cosy in the colder months. The front double bedroom gets very hot with the sun on it. I recommend closing the curtains in the afternoon as it's very warm overnight. The views from every window never get boring. A morning cuppa at the window in the back twin bedroom became a habit. The neighbours bird feeders are always busy and includes daily visits from a wood pecker, which was nice. I liked to sit on the bench in the sun with a drink before dinner in the little front garden and say hi to passers by. I must admit. I got in to watering the containers and did a bit of dead heading whilst I sat out there. You feel a sense of duty to be guardian during your stay! There is a very thorough booklet in the kitchen hamper which covers everything from rubbish collections, the immersion heater, spare light bulbs and much more. There was even a bottle of wine, scones, jam and clotted cream to welcome us! The hosts are great at staying in touch and really make sure you are happy with everything. I could have stayed there forever, so sad to leave and am so grateful that the hosts have decided to share this beautiful home and area with us all and not keep it to themselves! I would love to revisit over and over again! Thank you so much for the whole experience.

A fantastic stay
Lustleigh is a very picturesque village steeped in history. The renovation of Three Pound Cottage has achieved a prowess in keeping the original character of this 16th century building and in offering at the sama time maximum comfort. We just loved its decoration and the attention given to each detail. It is such a lovely and delightful place. We have made the most of Michaela and Brian’s personal guide to outdoor activities in Devon. We have enjoyed long and very enjoyable walks in the moor in splendid weather. We are so grateful to have had the privilege of staying in your property. So, many, many thanks again.

The cottage and the village felt like a nice warm bath.
Great walks right from the village, close to even better walks at Dartmoor. Very friendly people all around. And since the weather was very good, great to learn that so many nice beaches are close-by. The cottage itself would fit any UK countryside TV series, not just from the outside but also the inside. All the comfort you would need, very tasteful interior and still the charm of an old cottage.

4th stay at the cottage and can't wait to come back
Lustleigh is considered to be one of the loveliest villages in Dartmoor/Devon, and Three Pound Cottage is a big reason why. It is just idyllic. A perfect combination of charm, history, and comfort. Sit in the garden next to one of the walking paths in the village and have a chance to chat with visitors and villagers. You can get a lot of good advice on the area and get to know some great people. We were lucky enough to spend two weeks there this spring, and we are looking forward to coming back as soon as we can. I can't say enough about the community spirit and how welcoming everyone is. Lustleigh is a complete village with every amenity you need. It has a fantastic pub, the best tea room in Devon (and beyond), a village shop which carries everything you need, plus visiting bakers (Le Van du Pain--and you can order for twice a week delivery), pizza makers, and other suppliers of excellent quality food. And there is the Grade 1 listed St John's church dating to the 13th century, with further history dating to circa 500. And a vibrant and friendly congregation and the best bells in the region. Then there are the many walking paths starting in the village. You cannot possibly find a better place to experience Dartmoor than Three Pound Cottage. And by the way, their website is comprehensive and gives you all the information you need for a holiday in Dartmoor.

Lovely cottage and great time
We had a great week with our three boys in 3 pound cottage. Idyllic walls out the house, boat trips and the seaside on other days. The cottage of fully equipped and immaculate, we could not have asked for more. The owners were great and we are looking forward to returning.

One of the best cottages we've ever rented!
The cottage is picture-perfect on the outside and on the inside is well equipped and very comfortable. The welcome basket you are given is a lovely touch. Lustleigh itself is a tourist destination (parking can be tricky) but you're already there to enjoy all it has to offer. The pub about 20 yards away The Cleave has great food and a warm welcome. The tea rooms which you can see from the cottage are also excellent - you can nab a table in the garden before anyone else gets there! I would highly recommend staying at Pound Cottage.

We had a brilliant holiday at Three Pound Cottage
The cottage was delightful. Straight out of a children's book. A 16th century cottage, beautifully furnished and with all the mod cons....wifi, dishwasher, underfloor heating etc. and sparkling clean. The location is perfect. Lustleigh is a very pretty village with an excellent pub, the Cleave, just round the corner with friendly staff serving delicious food. The village shop also stocked most of the things we needed on holiday. Do pop into the church across the road even if it's just for a few minutes of quiet contemplation. And don't miss a stroll round the side of the cottage by the leat into Wreyland. What a treat! The cluster of thatched cottages is a hidden gem. Like stepping into a different world....a few centuries back I guess. We went for the Lustleigh Cleave walk using a takeaway leaflet from the 'Walks' file. We loved it. With carpets of bluebells in the woods, passed some gorgeous thatched cottages, spectacular waterfall/rapids and brilliant views from Hunters Tor. We had a wonderful holiday. Thank you Michaela and Brian.

A gem of a cottage, perfectly situated at heart of a living Dartmoor village
Partly thanks to superb weather we had as near perfect a week as could be imagined. The cottage has been tastefully modernised, while entirely retaining its charm and cosiness. It is well equipped and everything works. Lots of power points and exceptional wi-fi (but no mobile signal) if that matters to you. Immaculately clean. Tiny but charming garden in front gets afternoon sun on the comfy bench. The justly-renowned Primrose Tea Room, with lovely garden, superb cream teas and astonishing salad lunches is a few steps away up the slope - in season - and the Cleave pub is almost equally close around the corner with excellent food. There is a small shop with limited hours also nearby. It is a bonus that you deal directly with the owners. When they gave their routine call to see how we were doing and pressed us for any problems we said we couldn't find a tray - a brand new one arrived in the post two days later.

About the neighbourhood
Lustleigh is one of the quaintest villages in the National Park with a thriving and welcoming community. It is also one of the few villages on Dartmoor to boast a varied and well-stocked shop, an excellent Tea Rooms, an award-winning pub and a garage, in case of a little car trouble. Even though all are a short stroll from the cottages’ front door you’ll need to allow an extra 5 minutes as a local is likely to stop you for a chat – it’s just how life should be.
Getting around
With it’s easy road access, Lustleigh is an ideal base to explore both South and North Devon. The nearest train station is Newton Abbot where you can hire a taxi to Lustleigh or arrange to collect a rental car in advance of arrival. Bus services are quite limited on Dartmoor and we therefore recommend having your own transport if possible.
