Situated in the ancient Dartmoor settlement of Hookner, Lower Hookner Farm nestles between the heights of King Tor and Easdon Tor in a secluded valley at the end of a quiet lane. The farm has woodland, fields and streams offering a profusion of wild flowers and wild life, which visitors are welcome to explore. In addition our gates give you direct access to the open moor and the Mariners' way footpath runs through the farm. We are a working hill farm with moorland rights in an environmentally sensitive area, using traditional methods to manage our herd of suckler cows. We also keep horses, chickens and ducks. We are a dog friendly farm and welcome well behaved, under control dogs. The nearest village is North Bovey, 2 miles, with a thatched pub beside the tree studdied green. Moretonhampstead and Chagford, each 4 miles, are the nearest shopping towns. The lovely beaches of S Devon and the wild and rugged N Devon Coasts are both within one hours driving distance. The cottage opens onto a large, south-facing veranda, which extends the length of the building and has some of the best views on Dartmoor, across open fields and moorland. It has a well established private garden, with a small stream and a pond. The veranda is a wonderful place to have a barbeque in the evening, watching the ducks on the pond or simply sitting back and enjoying the Dartmoor views. More

About the neighbourhood
Dartmoor: “the last great wilderness in Southern England” . is approx 365 square miles of beautiful unspoilt countryside. Many of it's heather-covered hills have rocky Tors to explore. Marvellous for walking, riding, picnicking, and for being alone. Just off its edge, amid woods, valleys and farmed hills, are many pretty villages (sometimes thatched) and very lively small towns. The half of the moor north of the B3212 is the highest and wildest; no villages within it, almost no cultivation. The southern half (where we are ) has the most spectacular tors, best wooded valleys, a few villages like Widecombe, Buckland and Poundsgate in green-field 'oases'. The local Rriver Teign is an exceptionally beautiful river valley. The River Dart is also spectacular, all the way to the sea at Dartmo...
