Gullivers Cottage is not just another holiday rental - it's our home from home, where we come to relax with friends and family and we hope that you'll feel the same way. The cottage is within easy reach of a wealth of stunning beaches at Burton Bradstock, Lulworth and Durdle Dor, the Chesil Beach, Lyme Regis and West Bay - the location for the TV drama, Broadchurch. Gullivers Cottage is thought to be named after Isaac Gulliver, a local hero and notorious smuggler that owned land and property across West Dorset. Like many of the older cottages in Shipton Gorge, Gullivers is built of local golden sandstone beneath a slate roof supported by oak crux timbers. If you look closely, you'll find fossils of ammonites and belemnites embedded in the 1 metre thick walls! Internally, Gullivers Cottage can comfortably accommodate up to four people between two bedrooms and is perfect for family and adult getaways. The ground floor is fully open plan, making the interior light, airy and very sociable. For entertainment, there is a satellite TV and DVD player with a wide range of films for all tastes and ages. If you need to get online, Gulliver's has an unlimited superfast wifi connection and we provide a phone that you can use free of charge for UK calls to landlines and mobiles. There is a small library and a wide range of local OS maps and guides on places to go and things to do in the area. In autumn and winter, the log burner is perfect for relaxing and getting cosy after a day walking or beach combing and we supply a stock of logs to get you started. On summer days, our sun-trap garden is fully enclosed and private. Lawns and mature planting on two levels, provide a haven for birds and other visitors that have included field mice, bats, badgers and the occasional slow-worm. In summer time, the scent of the lilac, honeysuckle and ceanothus can be intoxicating and in autumn, the vine drips with ripening fruit under flame-red foliage. Upstairs, there is a double bedroom at the front and at the rear, bedroom two has a full size single bed and a smaller loft bed, suitable for children over 6 years old. The deep window seats provide just the place for quiet contemplation or to catch-up on a favourite book. More

About the neighbourhood
The village is well connected with a network of footpaths and bridleways to Burton Bradstock and onward to the coast and to Bridport. There are no busy and noisy roads here - you can hear a pin drop. You'll be surrounded by stunning countryside and the village has its own ancient hill settlement on Shipton Hill, where on a clear day, from the very top you can see three counties. The South West Coastal Path passes nearby and provides spectacular walks in both directions. You'll find a friendly welcome from villagers and we're about 10 minutes drive from Bridport which is a pretty, trendy, bustling market town. Beside supermarkets, Bridport offers a superb range of independent and quirky shops, an amazing street market, a fantastic range of eating places and there is lots to see ...
How to get there
From Bridport on the A35, after 1 mile, turn right onto a road signposted to Shipton Gorge and Burton Bradstock. If approaching from Dorchester on the A35, ignore the first signposted left turn to Shipton Gorge, and take the second left turning signposted to Shipton Gorge and Burton Bradstock. Follow the road for about half a mile into Shipton Gorge. A small lane to your left signposted Cuckoo Lane. Ignore this turn and carry straight on through the village, past the New Inn on your left and take the next left turn onto Port Lane. Follow the road for 100 yards and turn left into Chapel Street. 1, Gulliver’s Cottage is located 200 yards further up the lane, on the left.
