Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Excellent in every way
We really liked the "Old Post Office" . We stay a lot in holiday cottages and tend to go slightly out of the main season so that we can get somewhere a little larger and more comfortable than the tiny places sometimes on offer for two. This really was quite a lot larger but the sitting and kitchen/ dining area were perfect as we do like to cook sometimes as well as eat out. The cottage was very well equipped, very clean, and the welcome phone contact proactive and attentive ( very unusual). We really liked the fact that it was so close to Bridport yet in a very quiet village. It is close to good restaurants and lovely shops. We enjoyed the local community...even went to the garden party in the house next door! Can thoroughly recommend The Old Post office and will definitely be back in Symondsbury.

5* cottage which was home away from home
We stayed at the old post office for 3 nights and we all said we never wanted to leave. The cottage is done to a very high standard and the quality of the towels, beds and bed linen was what you find in a 5* hotel. We were all amazed at how well stocked the kitchen was, it had everything you need plus more! The rest of the cottage was also equally well stocked with hair dryers, washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board everything you want for a self catering holiday! The shower was also very good! I really could not fault the service, location or the cottage in anyway and we all hope to be back soon. Thank you Symondsbury Holidays!

Wonderfull time
A fabulous property and good value for 2012. Prices for 2013 are too high though and have taken this particular venue over our budget.
Had an issue with a blocked shower drain that backed up into the bath. A quick phone call to the house keeper yielded an excellent response on Boxing Day and things where then fine.
It's a lovely property, very quiet with a real fire to the lounge and and a wood burner in the kitchen diner. Logs supplied could have been drier though, they hissed a lot! Bought a supply locally which burned much better and allowed us to use the supply provided without putting the fire out ;-)
Local pub very good too and only a short walk from the property. Village also has a useful circular walk to help with getting rid of the excesses of Christmas. Oh, and well decorated real Christmas tree provided too!

Dorset at it's very best
The Old Post Office is a lovely place to stay - warm, cosy and well appointed- perfect for our family .. two standard poodles - Rusty and Casper .
We had a fantastic time- Wendy and Ruth are so kind making sure that you have a really lovely holiday.
We did - I have reservations about writing such a glowing report .... it gets more difficult to book ;)

Perfect intimate family holiday.
The cottage was meticulously clean and well presented, and generosity of "welcome food", firewood, bath robes, cleaning products etc, all so much appreciated. It really did feel like you were putting our pleasure and satisfaction at the forefront of your business. My middle son (12) said: "that was probably one of the best family holidays ever!" and we did have pretty awful weather! So a huge thankyou to all at the estate. Your cleaners are first-class, and Ruth a lovely, courteous and efficient go-between.

A little bit of luxury in glorious surroundings
This is the second time I have stayed at The Old Post Office, and it was as special the second time as the first. The cottage is quaint but spacious, practical yet cosy and above all else has a real luxurious feel to it. It is set in a good size garden, with ample parking on the drive way for all and wood burner in the dining room and the open fire in the lounge almost make it too cosy to leave on an Autumn / WInter day. The bedding, towels and bath robes are all supplied and are of wonderful quality as is the welcome hamper of the main food necessities to get your stay off to the right start. The town of Bridport is 5 minutes drive away and has everything you would need; the beaches are also 5 mins drive away, and whilst being pebbly they are uncrowded and peaceful. The booking of the cottage and all the administration is seamless too. So all in all, I love this place - so much so, I'm looking at booking my third stay very soon!

A reminder of what England was and is
The Old Post Office is secluded. However so close to the coast just a few minutes drive. It is quiet and peaceful with a wonderful standard of accommodation. There are many intriguing historical and other countryside delights which are so close and amazing if you know where to look in the surrounding area. These continue to surprise and go back centuries !

A comfortable cottage in a beautiful village.
A very comfortable and spacious cottage. Facilities are good ie games room, barbecue etc. the village is beautiful with a lovely pub that serves excellent food. There is plenty to do and see in the area including Charmouth and Lyme Regis beaches which are excellent for fossiling.

Extremely comfortable cottage in idyllic location
We spent a week at The Old Post Office in October with our dog and teenaged son. The cottage is charming, with a rustic shabby chic vibe and a pleasant airy feel in spite of the low ceilings..taller people beware of the kitchen doorway!
The cottage is very comfortable, the beds in particular were excellent, and the whole house was well heated. The large bathroom and power shower were great. The kitchen was well equipped and when we experienced problems with the dishwasher someone came on the same day and fixed it. Very impressed with the service over that and every time we contacted Wendy and her team in the run up to our stay.
The large garden was very pretty and the games room would be great if you had younger kids. It was a handy place for us to store our tandem! If you have a small dog then beware that they can get under the front gates easily....we had to watch our cocker spaniel closely when he was out there. The back garden is completely secure though.
The location of the cottage is great with a cosy and friendly village pub just a few minutes walk away and there are some great walks described in a folder in the cottage. Our son loved the free wifi which was very good, quick and stable compared to what we have at home in a similar country location. A second TV is provided in the master bedroom...as always seems to be the case...and it would have been better to have had that in the second bedroom so that our son could have used it. As it was it was never on.
Our only suggestion, other than moving the second TV would be a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs. The one at the top is quite fiddly to operate, very difficult one handed, and all of us slipped at some point trying to fasten it. If there were a gate at the bottom we'd never have needed the top one (it was keeping the dog at bay!) and people with small children would only need to have the top one fastened when the little people were upstairs. As things stand if you are travelling with toddlers I'd take a gate for the bottom of the stairs.
The Old Post Office was a really lovely place to stay. It was incredibly comfortable and in a beautiful setting. It's very convenient for Bridport which is a lovely little town. We'll definitely be back.

First Class
We have just had our second stay at the Old Post Office the first being in 2011. We have enjoyed it just as much as the first time. First class beds and bedding, cosy cottage, very large bathroom , lovely log fires, I could go on and on! Bridport is a very short drive with plenty of shops and the beach at Burton Bradstock was visited every day to give our dog a long walk. There was a lovely Christmas market in the village whilst we were there and it was the best market I have ever visited. Big thank you to Ruth and Wendy for making our stay so welcome, we shall return !
