Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

Great little getaway!
We stayed at the Old Reading Room at the beginning of Dec & it's absolutely delightful! After a very cold walk on the beach we enjoyed a cosy night in front of the fire! The cottage has a very welcoming feel to it, has a lovely quirkiness & has everything you need! We'd definitely book again in warmer weather so we could enjoy the garden & amazing view!

Perfect Pet friendly Cottage
The Old Reading Room Cottage is beautiful, comfy beds, pretty log fire, good wi-fi, amazing views from the secure dog safe garden. Everything has been provided for you to have a perfect stay. We stayed with our 2 dogs and especially enjoyed the walks from the cottage to the coastal path. Amazing countryside on your doorstep. Pub next-door was convenient & friendly. Cheryl was very kind & helpful. Will certainly be looking to stay again.

Great for a short break
My wife, dog and I spent a couple of nights at the Reading Room this summer and had a fabulous time. The house, garden and facilities were exactly what we needed and Cheryl couldn't help but be perfectly helpful. Location is great for visits to the beach, tank museum, monkey world and the blue pool. We definitely plan on returning in future!

Wonderful location, lovely garden with stunning views.
This cottage is the perfect summer house - sitting in the garden having a glass of wine and watching the sun go down over the Purbeck Hills is magical. We spent most of the time we were 'at home' in the garden; having breakfast on the raised decking, listening to the cricket sitting in deckchairs, and enjoying a BBQ during the best Bank Holiday weekend for decades. We also had meals in the garden room, with the doors open to catch a breeze. Our daughter was married in the magnificent church in the village and the reception was held in the Kingston Courtyard just down the road. Everything was perfect, and the bride and groom stayed with us before and after the wedding. The cottage is also very well equipped with everything you could need - from a washing machine and tumble dryer to hoola hoops ( we had a family challenge to see who could hoola for longest!). Great place to stay. Fabulous walks from the door in any direction.

Pretty cottage
Lovely little cottage with a beautiful garden with beautiful birds all around. The only thing for me that let it down as the TV did not work as there was no signal. The owner did get an aerial man out the next day and for 3 hours attempted to fix the problem which spoilt my relaxation in the garden but did not manage to fix the ptoblem. Hopefully they will get a satellite for other guests to enjoy the property to the best it should offer. The food at the pub opposite was awful.

Spectacular views.
Fantastic pub next door for food ales and cider. Great walks from the door. Lovely big garden with herbs and fruit trees. Well equipped cottage including kids toys and dog bowls, rucksacks and loads of books. Wareham was our port of call for food shopping. Local people are so friendly we had a lovely time.

Great views
All you need to sit and relax. Great walks and countryside has breathtaking views. So much todo. Wareham, had lots to offer with good butcher and lovely breakfast at the Salt Pig. Which also sold local fresh brown crabs, which really hit the spot.

Perfect cottage for a long weekend with friends
This is a really beautiful cottage in the village of Kingston, which is a perfect location to explore the whole of the Isle of Purbeck from. The house is cosy and spacious at the same time. I spent a lovely evening with friends by the fireplace in the sitting room. However there is no wood in the house, so you have to bring your own. The kitchen is very nice with a great view of the garden. The two bedrooms are lovely. It's very handy to have the Scott Arms right next door, where we had a good Sunday roast. I would recommend the Square and Compass in the next village, it's a great traditional pub, worth the taxi ride, especially when they have live music on. I was there at the end of January, and unfortunately we had bad weather, so didn't enjoy the garden much, but it is amazing and has stunning views. Now I want to go back in the summer!

Quaint location and very cozy for an Autumn visit!
I stayed at The Old Reading Room with my parents for a visit to Dorset in November 2016. Kingston is a bit out there but well worth it and still very accessible if you have a car. The bus also makes an hourly pick up/drop off just across the road, which was convenient. The cottage is extremely cozy and the importance of having a wood burning fireplace for the cold and damp November evenings cannot be overstated! That being said, it could be pretty chilly in the upstairs area, even with the fire going. Low ceilings downstairs add to the Old World charm, but watch your head! Overall we had a great experience and I would recommend Kingston and The Old Reading Room to anybody.
