Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Peace, quiet, comfortable, perfect.
We have stayed in quite a few places all over Scotland and this was the best one yet. Suited our needs perfectly with having two Labrador dogs with us, secure garden and loads of walks straight out of the gate, no road noise! Dark skies. Perfect peace and quiet. Cottage extremely comfortable to live in with everything provided by the owners. This cottage is a real gem. Have booked for a month next year.

Perfect rural cottage
Return visit, enjoyed our last stay so much we returned to Manse Cottage. Warm welcome from the owners. As before cottage was clean, warm and welcoming. It has an enclosed garden making it ideal for a dog. Also handy for dogs are the many walks straight from the cottage. Although eight miles from shops and facilities in Forres it is roughly half way between the beaches of the Moray coast and visitor facilities of Speyside. The location of the cottage is very quiet and allowed us to have the best sleep! We look forward to returning again.

cozy cottage in tranquil setting
the owners checked us in with a warm welcome and were both very nice and friendly people. The cottage has a warm homely feel to it with a lovely log fire in the front room. the garden was secure for our 2 dogs. Regards the bed - it was soft, but we found it very comfortable. The location is very quiet and peaceful. There are lots of walks in the area. if you wish peace and quiet and to escape the rat race, this is an ideal cottage. Thanks Angela and Seymour for a wonderful stay.

I am sorry you found the bed a bit soft. It is difficult to find the ideal one that suits everybody. And I am so glad that you had a happy and peaceful week with your dogs in our beautiful place. Angela

Perfect quiet retreat.
A very picturesque cottage situated in the quiet rural village of Dallas. The cottage has private parking although it is a tight squeeze, and fronts onto the very quiet public road. There is a well fenced garden and dogs are welcomed. The cottage looks like it has been recently renovated and is in perfect condition throughout. It was spotless on our arrival, and there are electric storage heaters. The owners stay next door and greet visitors soon after arrival. There are many walks from the house and a river nearby with a small swimming area if you need to cool down! There are many attractions for visitors within an easy drive of the cottage, south to Speyside (walks and distilleries) and north to Forres, Elgin and the Moray coast (forest walks, beaches and historic sites) About the only negative about the cottage was the double bed which we found too soft and not very comfortable, but that is just our preference. It should noted that there are no shops within approx 8 miles.

Cute cottage
Very pleasant stay, visited old haunts around the Moray Firth. Cottage dog friendly and garden secure for my mini Dachshound. Had to make sure we collected any groceries when out as was a few miles away from any shops.

Family 1/2 term break
We had a wonderful week at Manse Cottage. Great location by the river Lossie. We had a very happy young fisherman even though the big one got away! Simply charming cottage, we loved the open fire and the garden was perfect for our dog. The owner was very helpful and when we had a little mishap, very understanding. We will definitely be going back and highly recommend this as a place to stay in this wonderful part of Scotland.

A Week At Dallas
On arrival we were met by Angela who owns the property, she couldn't do enough for us. Tea and biscuits left for us on our arrival were a great touch. Property was well situated away off the beaten track, with little traffic. The cottage had everything needed for our stay, and spotless, all as per advertised. Great week had by all. Definitely would recommend for anyone wanting a quiet peaceful holiday.

About the neighbourhood
In the immediate area the old market town of Forres is a friendly and welcoming place and both it and Elgin have some interesting architecture including, in Elgin the now ruined Elgin Cathedral. It is an imposing mostly 13th Century building which was the seat of the Bishop of Moray. Elgin Museum is the oldest independent museum in the UK and home to some world famous fossils, the Dandaleith Stone and many other interesting artefacts. St Michael's Church 50 yards from the Cottage was built in 1793 where services are held every other Sunday. George Mifflin Dallas whose family originally came from the area became the Vice President of the USA and Dallas, Texas may have been named after him.

How to get there
Coming from Edinburgh take the A90 then M90 north then the A9 at Perth signed Inverness. A good place to stop for lunch and maybe a little shopping is The House of Bruar at Bruar (known locally as the Harrods of the north!). It is about an hour and a half from here. Continue on and turn right off the A9 to Grantown-on-Spey onto the A95 and continuing straight through this town you will be on the A939 to Forres where there are supermarkets and tea rooms. In Forres turn right at the Tolbooth (clock tower), go down the hill and over a small roundabout onto the B9101. This will take you through the town's outskirts and then through the village of Rafford. Do not turn off to Dallas Dhu in Rafford but continue on to the next marked junction to the right. This will take you by a country road to Dallas. Turn right at the War Memorial signed to Knockando. After about 100 yards take the first small road to the right just after the village school and before the pylon. You will find first the church, then the Manse and then on your right Manse Cottage. You have arrived!
