Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Great place to stay!
This house was excellent! Everything about it was perfect - great location in town, great location on the island, the house layout/interior was perfect. The kitchen was well equipped. We had the best time staying here - highly recommend it!

Excellent holiday cottage in central location for exploring Islay
Bowmore is perfect location for exploring Islay. The 3 bedroom house is within easy walking distance of several excellent hotels and restaurants, tourist information, local shops and bus stop. The house is well equipped for anyone who wishes to self cater. I would recommend this house to anyone wanting to visit Islay

TLC needed
Location wise this is excellent.close to shops and in the centre of the island.excellent heating system in house.it was very warm.however...on arrival it was clear the kitchen had not been cleaned and the floors hovered and my husband had to spend the start of our holiday cleaning.a single bin bag was provided for over a weeks holiday.with an extra £50 to pay as a cleaning fee this was unacceptable. The property has a drive to park your car however be warned.the garage is used by a gardener for business purposes.he was there for extended periods of time most nights and we had to frequently move our car or ask him to move his.there was a lot of trash by the side of the garage including a used gas bottle making the place look untidy. If taking a dog it is not a secure garden.there is no barrier in between neighbours garden. We only ended up using half the house as there was a strong smell of paint.this seemed to be coming from multiple paint cans stored in the cupboard.this is not something being pregnant I wanted to be breathing.however parts of the house desperately need some TLC. The bed in the master bedroom is extremely hard which isn't to our liking but other people may like it.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. We truly value the opinions of our guests and we apologize that we did not meet your expectations. We want you to know that our holiday home means far more than a business, we truly enjoy sharing our passion for our island with visitors and want you to walk out the door feeling refreshed after a relaxing holiday on Islay. On contacting you to provide address details, immediately prior to your stay, we did advise that our caretaker, who looks after the property and makes sure guests can get access, would be on hand and that he uses the garage for his equipment. On speaking with him he advised that when he left the keys off so that you could gain access he parked in the drive as the street was busy. He introduced himself to you at that point and apologised for this and immediately removed his vehicle. He also requested that your vehicle be moved off the slabbed walkway onto the cement hard standing as it is being damaged by vehicles and becoming a trip hazard for the disabled guest who occupy the property from time to time. This was also requested in our email sent prior to arrival. We are disappointed at that you did not contact either myself or the caretaker regarding the issues as indicated in your reply to my email prior to your visit. This would have given us the opportunity to address these issues. We agree that the property still requires some upgrading and is an ongoing project. We really appreciate your very positive comments on our new heating system, which is included in the price of the rental. We apologise for the smell of paint, the hall was emulsion painted in March, 3 weeks prior to your visit and we had believed that the smell would have dissipated. We thank you for highlighting that the painter inadvertently put the tins of leftover paint in the hall cupboard, we were not aware that he had left us the paint. This has now been removed. Due to the difficulty getting the busy tradesmen on Islay, the bathroom and kitchen upgrade has had to be postponed until next year so this is also being addressed. Normally when a couple, such as yourselves, only use the master downstairs, ensuite double room and not the upstairs two rooms which do not have ensuite. With regards to the cleaning fee, unlike most owners we did not charge extra for the deep clean that was after your dog being in the property. We do hope this did not spoil your enjoyment of our beautiful island, and, should you with to return when our property is fully upgraded we would be happy to welcome you.

Clean and well-equipped house in a convenient location
We had a very comfortable stay and would recommend the house. (Only knocked a point off because we got told off twice for accidentally parking the car slightly too close to the front door, which was stressful!)

Hi Nina. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and found our cottage comfortable. Please note that the welcome email does request that vehicles are not parkrfed on the slabbed walk way but on the cement hardstanding provided. This is to avoid the walkway becoming damaged and a trip hazard/ H&S issue. We are sorry if this caused any stress and will look at putting up a sign to avoid any misunderstanding in the future. Kind regards Fiona

Excellent vacation rental
My wife and I love Islay, and this accommodation made our stay even more enjoyable. The cottage is clean, comfortable and quiet. The private driveway was an added bonus. Shops, restaurants and the Bowmore distillery are a 5 minute walk away. Highly recommended.

About the neighbourhood
Bowmore is the capital of Islay and is the main shopping centre for the island. Within a 5 minute walk from Mo Dachaidh you will find the Co-op grocery store, butcher, chemist, restaurants, gift and coffee shops as well as 3 hotels with bars and restaurants. The famous Bowmore Distlley, with its excellent visitor centre is located in School Street just of the Main Street next to the swimming pool. Bowmore, situated in the centre of the island is an ideal base for exploring the whole island, and whatever direction, distillery, beach or historic site, is just a short car journey away.
Getting around
The bus stops are less than a 5minute walk from the property, both located in Main Street outside the Co-op going south to Port Ellen, Laphroig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg. On the opposite side of Main Street the bus stop for Port Askaig to the north end or round Lochindaal to Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Portnahaven. Please note that during the school term these routes the bus stop can be from the local school at certain times so please check the bus timetable. We would, however, recommend sightseeing the Island by car as the buses only run to the main villages. For visitors without their own transport, there is the option to hire a car, hire a taxi or book a private tour for a day offered by all the taxi companies
