About the neighbourhood
Lewis being the largest island of the Outer Hebrides has a rich history and culture dating back from the Norse invasions to strong Gaelic traditions that are still observed to this day. Stornoway is the main port and was named ‘Steering Bay’ by visiting Vikings in past centuries. The island’s diverse habitats are home to an assortment of flora and fauna, making it the ideal place to ‘chill out’ and get away from it all. The cottage is well placed for guests with a variety of pursuits in mind, whether into hillwalking, fishing or bird watching, fun packed watersports or just relaxing on a sandy beach. Stornoway boasts an 18 hole golf course, tennis and outdoor bowling and a sports centre with swimming pool.
How to get there
From Stornoway Airport: Follow exit road from airport until you arrive at the A855. Take a right turn and follow the Stornoway signpost. Turn right when you get to Seaforth Road junction and follow on until you arrive at Constable Road where you turn right. When you arrive at the Ivorhill turn-off (directly after an ambulance station), turn left then first right again. The cottage is the third on the right. If travelling from Stornoway ferry terminal: Turn left and follow Shell Street until the first roundabout. At the first roundabout take a right turn along James Street (signposted to airport) and pass directly through the second roundabout then on to Sandwick Road - you will pass a fuel station on your right. Follow along Sandwick Road and take the first left then carry on until you ar...
