The garden has a gate which leads straight onto the private foreshore, from where you can fish, have a glass of wine, or just sit and watch the yachts, naval and fishing boats come and go, including the occasional submarine or cruise liner. Opposite is the lighthouse-keeper's cottage on Eilean Bàn where author Gavin Maxwell (Ring of Bright Water) lived. All rooms overlook the water and in the summer the sun sets behind The Old Man or Storr in the distance. The majestic Skye Bridge is about a kilometre away (no traffic noise- this is Skye!!) The house itself has recently been refurbished to a high standard and guests enjoy the use of superfast broadband, Alexa sound system, underfloor heating, Aga cooker, zinc-topped kitchen refectory table digital TV and plenty of interesting books. The house is perfectly suited for one or two couples, but we also have a single camp bed for one additional person if required. Kyleakin is perfectly situated on Skye, just a few minutes from the bridge and within easy reach of the varied attractions of all parts of the island. Although very peaceful, there is always something going on in the channel or the fishing harbour just a moment's walk away. Unfortunately, due to dangerous rocks and sea access right by the house we are unable to accommodate children under ten years of age. The house is also unsuitable for unaided wheelchair users due to access via steps. Please see photo gallery for Energy Performance Certificate. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

Fabulous views nice cottage. Chill.
When we arrived the sun was shining the view was stunning. Sit in the window with a book or watch the world sail by. Everything from small yachts to the Hebridean Princess. Decking area when the weathers good. Good location for days here and there, Applecross on the Mainland, Dunvegan Portree. Or just sit and enjoy watching the world drift by.

Paradise
We have just had the most wonderful time in this amazing place. The house is perfect in every way and so full of love. The owners have invested their time and heart into this home and we did not want to leave. When you do eventually drag yourself away there are lots of things to explore, we toured the whole island enjoying the scenery and culinary delights. But most of all we enjoyed relaxing watching the wildlife from the window. Thank you for our most perfect honeymoon we hope to return again someday. It's

Great house in a great setting - didn’t want to leave!
Loved our stay at The Anchorage. The house is decorated in a contemporary style and ideal for a small family or two couples. The location next to the waters edge is fantastic. Always something to look at - boats, wildlife and great sunsets, weather permitting. Decking has recently been installed in the garden which is a huge asset to the house, giving the option of alfresco dining in the summer. The owner was easy to deal with and always quick to respond. Kyleakin is an attractive village with a small harbour, two pubs and a couple of short walks which can be done from the house. It’s ideally placed for exploring southern Skye and the option of visiting nearby mainland villages eg. Plockton

Picture perfect on the waters edge
The waters edge location is the main selling point of this homely abode, as the island of Skye can live up to its Norse name of Skuy...misty isle or cloud isle which we experienced during our stay, but enjoying the comfort of the window seating gazing out at the changing weather and passing small fishing boats and yachts coming and going under the Skye bridge. When the sun did shine, sitting out on the wooden seat just thru the gate above the rocks was a tonic in itself watching the shipping and the hooded crow nip the herring gulls wing, I could not understand why the gull was daft enough landing close to a crafty crow. The comfort of the cottage with its underfloor heating and stove ensured a warm living glow from breakfast to bedtime, with comfortable seats cushions and a bookworms library to please all tastes. If you have bins tripod and scope then don't forget them for the seals and birds in the loch. The main ingredient gained from the cottage should you seek it, is the peace and serenity it exudes....you may want to anchor yourself here for your entire stay !

Thank you so much for your kind review (sorry I missed it when it came in!). Yes those crows really shouldn't be nesting so close to the water- they are bullies! but all adds to the excitement! Welcome back to The Anchorage any time. Regards, Richard.

Fantastic accommodation in a stunning location
The views from this accommodation are stunning, changing throughout the day as the light changes. We loved sitting in the window each day. The accommodation is very clean, tastefully decorated and with everything you will need for a holiday. There is lots to do in the area, good walks, etc. Communication with the owner has always been excellent. I would recommend staying here.

About the neighbourhood
The Anchorage is perfectly situated for touring both the dramatic north and lush south of the island. There are numerous castles, including the famous Eilean Donan, the challenging walks and climbs of the Cuillin mountain range, fabulous waterfalls cascading onto sandy beaches, highland cattle and pretty villages such as Plockton on the mainland close byThere are whale-watching excursions and boat trips to numerous islands such as Raasay, Rhum, Eigg, and many more. Beaches with spectacular views can be found around the island and we particularly like Elgol and Tarskavaig, each of which are within about half an hours drive. Gaelic can occasionally and the Skye ceilidhs are a must. There are several excellent world-class restaurants on Skye, which is rapidly becoming known for its cuisine. Among the best are the Three Chimneys (the 28th best restaurant in the world according to the Daily Telegraph)cookery writer Clare MacDonald's Kinloch Lodge which is within a twenty-minute drive of The Anchorage.Corruisk House on the way to Elgol is an excellent sea-food restaurant, as are The Plockton Hotel in Plockton and the Applecross Inn. If you enjoy your food, Skye is the place for you! Charter, fishing, whale watching, seal watching, fast sea safari, and glass bottom boats are all available locally. Diving gear and bikes can also be hired locally.
Getting around
The best way to see Skye is by car - no doubt about it. There are also loads of great roads for cycling too (some of them original roads that have now been bypassed, so they are car free). Getting to Skye, if you are not driving, can be done by rail to Kyle of Lochalsh, ideal from Inverness, the nearest airport about two hours away. The railway station is right across the water from the house and about 7 minutes away by taxi.
Access
Car advised
How to get there
Approximately 4 hours north west of Glasgow, the western route takes in some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland, including Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, Ben Nevis and Kintail. Alternatively there are regular very low cost flights from Luton with Easy-Jet to Inverness. Then train to Kyle of Lochalsh - one of the prettiest railway journeys in the world! The house is 5 minutes taxi journey away. Or just drive from anywhere in the UK - it's about 10 hours drive from London. But you won't find a more dramatic journey anywhere in the UK!
