My family live on the Isle of Bute and I needed to rent a holiday let to visit them. Needed something to suit 3 adults, one of which has walking difficulties and uses a mobility scooter. We found the flat to be extremely comfortable with all the necessary items required for a full stay with the exception of a washing machine. There are fittings for a washing machine in the en-suite bathroom so I am assuming that there would normally be a washing machine there otherwise the accommodation was spot on! The main ferry to Bute sails from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. The service, operated by Caledonian MacBrayne, runs every 45 minutes. The crossing takes 35 minutes and there is no need to book. Further information and timetables are available at calmac website.

There is an alternative ferry crossing, operated by Calmac, between Rhubodach (at the north end of Bute) and Colintraive on the Cowal peninsula. If you prefer to take the scenic route through Argyll to Colintraive this would be a good choice.This is a very frequent service and takes less than 5 minutes to cross..
