Beautiful place
The house is situated in a beautiful peaceful location, highly recommended!! The house was lovely and spacious, easily catered for our party of 10. Plenty of information was provided beforehand to help make the most of our stay. We couldn’t fault our trip, the children loved playing in the lake which is right next to the house and we enjoyed an evening meal at the view, where we also rented bikes to explore the area. The local shop (post office) only accepts cash, just to make people aware! The drive down to the cottage is single lane and we did notice some drivers getting quite close to us whilst driving down here but we also noticed a sign to say you can pull in to let people more familiar with the road past you - which I would recommend. The house itself is, as described, is traditional and so contained a lot of original features which added to the character. The kitchen was well equipped and the living room fit our whole family in whilst playing some board games. The beds were comfy and all rooms were clean and with lovely views of the lake in some. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

Cozy home in a beautiful location
Couldn't recommend this house highly enough. It feels like a real home from home. The cozy fires, incredibly comfy beds (with electric blankets which were amazing), comfortable living room, beautiful kitchen and huge garden were particular highlights. The house was perfect for 10 people. The area is beyond stunning. The house literally sits on the side of the loch (check the tide times, when it's out there is a massive beach and when it's in there is literally none). There are gorgeous walks all around (greenbank's website has the routes) - we particularly enjoyed the river walk and the donich falls walk (although we didn't find the instructions super clear went the wrong way twice - we THINK the 'right' way after the farm houses is to go up the very steep winding track with posts along it, although we had great adventures going straight on at that point and also going up the stairs and going right). The pub is just steps away which is very sweet and reasonably priced. We sat outside taking in the view. Honestly the only tiny hiccups were the bowls (which we struggled to use for cereal or soup as they were so shallow) and the fact we couldn't get hot water in the evening (potentially our fault for not doing something right). Which were both very manageable hiccups that didn't effect the enjoyment of our stay. We'd definitely like to return!

Perfect house for a group, everything on your doorstep and dog-friendly
A group of 9 of us stayed at Greenbank in September 2022. The house is well equipped and suited our mixed group very well. For the older folk, the house is in a lovely location with views over the sea loch, the front garden is a lovely place to sit on a sunny evening. For the more active members of the party we had a great time with good mountain biking from the door, hills within easy reach and a choice of pleasant walks to be had without getting into a car. On the subject of traffic, the house is on a dead-end road so there is minimal traffic. Asda and Morrisons deliver to the house so once you are here you can park up and have a lovely stress-free holiday.

Happy overall
If you read all the reviews then you'll be aware that during the winter months then Greenbank will be cold. It is cold but once warmed up and with the heaters supplied it is quite a comfy holiday home. Only a few issues which are easily sorted. The rugs could do with a good thorough clean, my children wore white socks and within no time they were filthy. They don't look dirty just need a deep clean, probably caused by the use of coal. The kitchen facilities are not the best. Its only little things like Yorkshire pudding trays, toast holder etc. When you have a large party it makes life a little easier with these little things. The beds require updating. The double in the front double bedroom slants so you feel as though you will role out so is very uncomfortable. The single bed ( 1st on left as you go upstairs) needs replacing as slats being held together by duck tape. For what we paid we thought we would get a little better but overall we were satisfied and we made do as it was the mother inlaws last Xmas with us due to terminal cancer so we wanted it to be the best and she loves lochgoilhead. If these issues are sorted then it will be well worth the money. Overall a half decent well needed break. The owners were great. Several emails exchanged to make sure we were OK and if we had any issues, also received phone call the evening of our arrival to give advice. Please don't let my review put you off this home as these things can easily be sorted and I'm sure they will be. Many thanks. Ian & Family

Thanks for your detailed feedback. We love to hear from guests and that’s why we leave a feedback form on the sitting room table. So we know what needs attention. I couldn’t find any reviews mentioning Greenbank as cold. I think you may be remembering ‘the house is cold’ from our very long and detailed email, sent at enquiry time, before booking. In this email we lay out all the idiosyncrasies of Greenbank. We warn everyone who enquires that the house may be chilly on arrival in winter and they will need to light the fires to supplement the radiator heating. We say the heating in the house will never generate T-shirt conditions in winter. Our neighbours kindly came in, before your arrival, to light the kitchen stove. It's good to know that you made full use of the unlimited fuel provided and were able to make the house quite comfy. We are keen home cooks ourselves so we see kitchen equipment as very important. You will have found a wide range of trays: roasting trays of different sizes, quiche tins, pizza trays, a bread loaf and a cake tin plus cake stand. There are no bun/yorkshire pudding tins and we will rectify that. We hope you were able to improvise and perhaps cook your yorkshire pudding in the old fashioned way: in a roasting tin. As you say this issue is easily sorted and will be. Ditto a toast rack. Our usual worry about pricing is that we are too cheap compared to similar (sleeps 9/10) self catering properties nearby. Their prices range from £2500 - 5300 at peak times for 10 days although not all give the option of a 10 night stay. The cost of your stay for 10 days over the Christmas and New Year period was £2357. We feel we are competitively priced. We aim to provide affordable, great value stays for 10 people. We know we get some things spot on. We provide a dining room table that seats 10, the kitchen is huge with a small table and 4 chairs so it’s a social space as well as functional, a large utility room and front porch for outdoor gear (and a dryer in case it’s needed) and 4 bathrooms. We know we can’t get everything perfect all the time and feel a bit sad that you expected a little better for the price. Regretfully, as in many old cottages, the floors slope in rooms but we will look again at how we can make furniture more level. As you say we are always readily available on the end of the phone and by email. Thank you for the feedback and the photos on Google Maps. What gorgeous blue skies complimented the view from the doorstep. Regards Amanda

Lovely cottage in a magical place
We had a fabulous time at Greenbank in late September/ early October for my 30th birthday. The house is as beautiful as the setting and equipped with anything you'd need for a comfortable stay. Hot water may need to be rationed if fully booked but this didn't spoil my stay (whoever is bothered by lukewarm showers can always get in first!). We had lots of fun exploring the village and beautiful countryside, you can hike up to the top of the hill behind the house and be back at the house in under 2 hours! There was a little gin festival on as well when we stayed and we got to sample some delicious local gin whilst listening to some live music. Lots to do in the area as well, one of us booked a massage at the holiday Estate around the corner and we also rented a boat on the Loch and did some kayaking - all very fun! For trips further afield I'd highly recommend Inveraray with its beautiful castle, quaint highstreet and a delicious lunch at the George (30 mins drive). We also did a distillery tour and tasting at Glengoyne (1hr drive) which was fab and did another boat trip taking us around the rough seas by Jura with Jenny Wren boat charter out in Craobh Haven (1h10 drive) which we really enjoyed. One thing I would recommend staying away from is eating out at The Goil Inn - whilst perfectly fine for a drink their food was pretty horrific buy maybe we were just unlucky! Couldn't recommend staying at Greenbank any more, the owners have been sending super helpful emails from the start and communication was amazing. We will be back for the next big birthday! :)

Thank you Sarah for this very comprehensive review which will help future guests. Apologies for the hot water situation, there should have been oodles. Obviously something has gone wrong and we are looking into it. We understand that since reopening, post pandemic, the Goil Inn has had some chef issues. So any potential guest reading this, please check out their latest TripAdvisor reviews to see if the food has improved. We are really pleased you enjoyed the area and your stay at Greenbank! You don't have to wait until the next big birthday before coming back!

Great family holiday
We stayed for a family holiday with our sons and their family ( and dog) and could not ask for a better place to stay. The house was ideal with an enormous back garden in which the grandchildren could enjoy playing in (and us oldies relax in when they were out). The grandchildren also enjoyed exploring the beach and swimming in the Loch. We enjoyed Lochgoilhead and the surrounding area. Hired a boat to explore Loch Goil, went on a cruise of Loch Lomand , did the Gruffalo Trail at Ardkinglas and had a wonderful meal at Loch Fyne Oyster restaurant. Cannot wait to go back again.

Fabulous family break
Loved every minute of our time at this well equipped charming cottage. Loads of space and the position is superb, overlooking Loch Goil. Lots of local walks and a chance to book a Loch Cruiser and observe the local wildlife. We saw seals and a porpoise. The owners communication was excellent and with a week to go sent daily emails telling us what to expect and tips on walks and places of interest in the local area.

Spacious house in an amazing location
We had a fantastic 5 days at Greenbank to celebrate my husband's 50th. There are lots of things to do in the area, even when the weather isn't on your side: Endless scenic walks, Loch Goil cruisers, we visited Inveraray Jail and had a lovely meal at The View Restaurant. With the current pandemic and time of year, there were many other attractions which were unfortunately closed, but any other time and we could have easily filled 2 weeks with activities - both on and off the water. It was great to come back every day to a lovely warm and comfortable house, where we played board games, cards and watched films. We had a really relaxing stay and the scenery is just stunning. Thankyou for your hospitality, Amanda & Bern!

Great Family Break
Had the pleasure of a 4 night stay at Greenbank with my wife, 4 kids, and 2 dogs. Everything we needed was already contained within the house and the large garden was fully enclosed for the dogs which is always a necessity for us. The location is absolutely stunning, right on the bank of the loch. Plenty of activities to do around the loch and in the surrounding area too. Highly recommended.

Spectacular
Gutted to be home after spending 10 nights at this fabulous cottage. The owners are speedy with responses ans quick to help with any queries. The cottage has prime position with stunning views over the Loch and mountains in the backdrop. There are some amazing walks right on the door step from easy river walks to mountain climbs. We also spent some wonderful sunny days on the Argyll Secret Coast which has beaches to rival any across the world. The cottage has everything that you could possibly need away from home, including a fully stocked kitchen. There were only two of us and a large dog so it was a big cottage and a large enclosed garden. This is the perfect place to escape the madness of the world!!
