Stables Cottage is one of five cottages set within a courtyard on East Kirkland Farm, Wigtown, Dumfries & Galloway, a beautiful, peaceful location overlooking Wigtown Bay Nature Reserve and the hills beyond. Wigtown (Scotland's Book Town) is one mile / 15 minute walk along a quiet single track road. A perfect central base to explore glorious Galloway.

Additional facilities include indoor swimming pool (open April to end September) , games barn, swings and trampoline, drying room, laundry room with dryer, additional freezer space for each cottage, a selection of dvds and information leaflets on the local area. Free Wifi is available in the courtyard. This cottage has £1 coin meters for electricity and night store heating which costs approx £10-£40 per week (Depending on the time of year). Check in from 4pm on day of arrival. Check out 10am on day of departure..

Well behaved pets are always welcome here at Courtyard Cottages, but due to the fact we are a working farm, and other guests on-site, dogs must be kept on a lead at all times. Dogs are not allowed on the sofas or the beds and we also request, due to noise and damage, that dogs are not left unattended in the cottages. Any damage caused by your dogs will be chargable.

On arrival, you will be greeted and directed to your cottage with a full tour of the property and facilities available to you during your stay. As we live on site, we are never far away if you need us and being local to the area, we can help point you in the right direction for places to eat, things to see and where to visit during your time in the area.

Just returned from a six day break at courtyard Cottages. The hosts ,Paul & Claire were very accommodating to say the least.We arrived a little early but the cottage was ready.
The Cottages are in a quiet, very clean and flat courtyard.There is ample onsite parking which is basically right up to the door.
Our cottage was a one bed affair with an open-plan kitchen diner .There is a full bathroom on entry.
There is an electricity meter in a wall box which takes £1 coins.We only fed it £9 as we did not need the heating on.
The hot water is timed and is piping hot.In the living area there is a bespoke Woodburner which we used on the first night.Tv and DVD player complete this space.
The cottage can be described as rustic .The walls are very thick just like a traditional cottage should be.
Outside near the reception there are majestic views all around.
Looking at the location and layout of these Cottages, you could easily be in a Gite in the Vendee..Its truly beautiful.
We noticed our cottage boasted a locked gun case so if you desired a spot of shooting you are catered for.Paul the proprietor offers these type of activities.
As an added bonus there is a private heated pool which can be privately booked during your stay.There is a simple booking system which allows a seamless arrangement to swim in a private setting.
At the pool area there are two changing booths .There is enough advice signage to put the bather at ease ..Maximum depth is 1.4m.
Meandering your way back to the Cottages, there is a childrens play area and a set of football goals.
All in all a brilliant safe and friendly stay.
Wigtown is a mile away where there is a co-op plus a lovely restaurant.
A bit further a field is Newton Stewart which has everything including an Aldi and a Sainsbury store.
An abundance of takeaways and a cafe complete this quaint town.
2 petrol stations closes the chapter.
Loads to do as the Cottages are perfectly placed.

Beautiful, peaceful place
A nice warm welcome and a beautiful cottage. The pool was great, and along with the games barn the kids were kept busy, especially during typical Scottish weather. Looking forward to going back.

Great weekend
Great weekend for 6 adults and 4 children. Play barn and pool were well used and the trampoline and outdoor play area was a bonus. Cottages were ideal and well equipped. We hired one for six and one for 4. Lovely to be so near each other. Shared meals at the outside areas. Owners were lovely and on site if we needed anything. Lovely peaceful weekend. Thank you.

Lovely stay
Lovely, relaxing place in a lovely location a short walk or cycle away from Wigtown. The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed, especially the peaceful and quiet area, the pool was popular too. The whole Machars peninsula is beautiful and we enjoyed the beaches at Rigg Bay near Garlieston and Monreith. Isle of Whithorn was also lovely and there are many nice places to eat in the area. Claire and Paul, the owners, are very welcoming and helpful.

A Superb Family Break
Having first stayed at Courtyard in May 2021, we loved it so much that we have returned every May since and have booked again for next year. The location is reasonably remote, which is great if you want to get away from it all, although the town of Wigton is only a 15-20 minute walk away and there are lots of places to visit within 10-15 minutes driving.
Although the site only has 5 cottages, this is one of the things that makes it so good because the on-site facilities offer lots for families with younger kids - there are 2 large grass play areas with climbing frame, trampoline, football goals, etc, not to mention the indoor games barn and of course the swimming pool.
We stay in the 2 semi-detached cottages that sleep 4, which is so good for us being on holiday with another family of 4, because the shared outdoor terrace and grass area make you feel like you are all staying together in one large party.
Owners Paul and Claire are a lovely couple who live at the other side of the former working farm, and are excellent hosts, being there if you need anything but also leaving you to it to enjoy your stay. Overall, Courtyard is a hidden gem and highly recommended.

Home from home
As always a great stay in Stables Cottage. Everything provided and more than you’d expect. Cosy cottage a short lovely walk from Wigtown with fantastic facilities such as indoor heated pool, games room and play area. Great for kids of all ages and added extra of some animals nearby as this is a working farm. Already looking forward to going back next year.

Peace and swimming everyday . Very Clean .Everything provided.
Wigtown a short walk away and a good market on Saturday.
Fish and chips on Friday in Wigtown .v.good ,
The sheep and goats are very friendly .

A perfect acomadation!!
Our 4th year staying at courtyard Cottages and definitely not our last!
Everything about this place is perfect. The cottages are wonderfully cosy and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The pool and games barn are perfect for rainy days. There's so much the do in the local area , cafes in wigtown are a must visit for tea and cake, and some beautiful walks and beaches close by, all of which are featured in the super helpful welcome booklet in the cottage.
Claire and Paul are wonderful hosts with a wealth of local knowledge. Always there to to help with anything or just for a chat!
A real gem of a place!!!

Amazing stay at this lovely cottage! Well equipped cosy accommodation in superb location with scenic views. Brilliant swimming pool and games barn to entertain the kids and lovely hosts who went that extra mile to ensure we had a fantastic holiday. Would highly recommend!

From Newton Stewart, follow the A714 towards Wigtown for approximately 6 miles. Just before Wigtown, take a left (signposted Moss of Cree) At the end of this short road, turn left and we are situated first on the left.
