Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

The Byre
We stayed at The Byre for 4 nights during July and were fortunate enough to have enjoyed some exceptional weather. The cottage was very clean and well-appointed, and we particularly liked the welcome pack after our long drive. The Byre is set in a delightful valley with excellent views and there are a number of local walks which are clearly identified in the information provided. Lesley was helpful, welcoming and a useful source of local knowledge. Altogether we had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday which I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Beautiful.
We spent a couple of days in this beautiful cottage. It is so peaceful, with stunning views, we took some lovely walks, going up as far as the MOD training area. Our dog loved running in the field accessed through the wood shed. The cottage had everything we needed for our stay and was indeed very cosy.

Beautiful location, totally peaceful and cosy cottage
I had a very relaxing stay with my Autistic son and partner. The cottage was very cosy with the most beautiful outlook across a wooded valley - the silence was wonderful, as was the star gazing, heat lightening and owls gently hooting. Lesley was an excellent host, and so glad she recommended wild swimming at Llyn Y Fan Fach which was very welcomed on such a hot day! I look forward to returning in the winter to enjoy the woodburner and cooler walks. Thank you Lesley.

The most perfect, peaceful and relaxing dog friendly weekend break ever.
The most perfect, peaceful and relaxing weekend break ever for our 24th Wedding Anniversary. The cottage is tucked away in the beautiful landscape of Llandovery with picturesque views. The cosy cottage is gorgeously decorated, light and airy, with everything you could need and is spotlessly clean. Lesley is very friendly and gave us such a warm welcome, and the fresh eggs, bread, cheese and butter were delicious. We will definitely be returning, we just wish we could stay every weekend. Thank you Lesley for allowing to stay in your wonderful holiday home.

A beautiful cottage in stunning countryside. A warm welcome from Lesley (owner) with a welcome pack including milk and eggs which was much appreciated. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything you need. Highly recommend The Byre and we hope to return.

Perfect Getaway for total peace and quiet
Wonderful location, great property with mod cons, clean and very comfortable. The property has one double and 2 singles and whilst everything has a new and fresh feel, it retains the charm associated with a converted barn with beams and stone walls. We enjoyed sitting outside with sheep and birds offering the only noise watching swifts swooping for insects and sparrows feeding their young. The owner is lovely and provided us with some provisions which were delicious. Also ideas of where to go. A real home away from home with the added benefit of peace and quiet. We will be back!

Lovely cottage in a lovely location
As part of my 50th birthday bucket list, one of the things to do this year was to climb pen y fan. This cottage is about 30 mins drive away and we couldn't have picked a better place to stay. When we arrived Lesley met us and showed us around, leaving fresh bread, eggs and numerous other groceries to get us settled in. There are plenty of walks right on your doorstep and our boxer dog instantly fell in love with her new surroundings. After a long day climbing mountains, the wood burner was most welcome. Unfortunately due to a family emergency we had to leave earlier than expected. Lesley was amazingly helpful and we can't thank her enough for everything she did. A fabulous place to stay and truly relax.

How to get there
* The position on the Trip Adviser map is incorrect. We are 3 miles off the A40 to the East of Llandovery. The peace and quiet afforded to The Byre is due to it being tucked away in a valley well away from main roads, but this means that access from the A40 is along a two way, narrow lane with passing places, but several blind bends, so please do drive carefully! From the A40 (Brecon to Llandovery road). Take the Babel/Pentre- ty- Gwyn turn off (Sat Navs may suggest other exits, but this is the recommended route). Once over the small bridge, follow the road around to the left (follow signs for Country House B&B). Continue on this lane without turning off, through the hamlet of Pentre-ty-Gwyn to Babel and turn off left at the Babel Community Hall (follow signs for Merlin Cottages). Continue on this lane past the Pen-y-Waun (Merlin Cottages) turn off, for another 1/3rd mile and then take a sharp right turn signposted Maes-y-Gwaelod down the lane and past the farmer’s barn. Parking is in front and behind the stone shed on the lane. You will see the gate to The Byre on your right hand side.
