Llanaber, Barmouth, Gwynedd, North Wales, Wales
A lovely holiday cottage with garden and sea views situated near the seaside resort of Barmouth and surrounded by Snowdonia. 'Tai Newyddion' means 'new houses', but they are actually 300 year old farm worker cottages. It has a secluded garden which includes a sheltered patio area with excellent views of the Irish Sea and Cader Idris mountain range. The cottage is within walking distance (200m) of Barmouth's sandy beach. The nearest footpath into the hills is only 60 meters away. The cottage is 1.5 miles from Barmouth town centre and is convenient for both bus and train connections.

This cottage is a gem, both for location and facilities. Our week was hot and sunny so Barmouth was at its best. The views from the garden are lovely but with the warm weather these are rapidly disappearing behind quick growing foliage!! People who have impaired mobility or vision should be wary as the site has many steps and there...

As previously this cottage is very nice, with considerate service, eg. I found inexplicably the shower ran cold. The owner put it right when I was out. He told me later there is a pull cord switch for it. The owner had made strenuous efforts to contact me prior to my late arrival. Failure - on my first day after...

Everything that really matters is overall excellent. Sofas, bed, etc and utilities throughout - in kitchen, lounge, bedroom and bathrooms - are excellent. Kitchen is well-equipped. Garden is gorgeous - I loved sitting on the terrace. The view of the sea, from the bedroom or garden was special. The downstairs carpet appears to be a lower spec, but that allows...

Management response:

Dear Peter R.; Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we're very glad you enjoyed your week there. Improvements are ongoing with wi-fi recently installed but you are correct; the television is due for modernisation and will be replaced soon although we feel the sound quality on these modern flat screen televisions will not match up....

About the neighbourhood
In a nutshell you would describe Barmouth as having a wonderful 2km. long beach; an attractive and lively Harbour area; spectacular scenery especially up one of the most beautiful estuaries in the world; birthplace of The National Trust and a walkers paradise. The town hosts 4 festivals. In July there is Country & Western and a Kite Flying Festival. 1st. week in September there's an Art Festival and for 9 days around the 3rd. week there is a very popular Walking Festival catering for all abilities. The local Theatre holds events throughout the year but the most popular is a Jazz/Soul/Folk evening held every 4th. Friday in a cabaret setting. Originally, Barmouth was a tiny hamlet built almost entirely on the rock over-looking the river mouth and frequented by pirates. The sea receded... more
