Interaction with guests
We live in the farmhouse full time and are always here to welcome guests personally and give you the keys. We will show you round the cottage and provide a complete guide to it, with descriptions of what to find, where to find it and how it works. Everything is tested as workable before each arrival and we stress to visitors to ask us for help if necessary. There is plenty of information in the cottage about the surrounding area and we are here to help with suggestions and directions if needed. Finally, we love meeting all our guests and enjoying your stories and experiences.

Reviewed 30 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My husband and I, and our 2 close friends from California were welcomed to the cottage by Bryn and Jasper, the two lovely dogs, and shortly after by Edwina and John our friendly, informative, but unobtrusive, hosts. Bechers is beautifully decorated and equipped and just feels warm and relaxing and we thoroughly enjoyed our welcome basket with its bottle of...

Becher's is a really lovely cottage - spacious, clean and tastefully decorated with all you need to enjoy a fantastic break. Edwina and John are delightful - friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The countryside around is nothing short of breathtaking. A really great place to get away from it all! We'll definitely be back.

About the neighbourhood
Monmouth is a bustling Welsh border market town situated at the confluence of the Rivers Wye, Monnow and Trothy. The medieval bridge built in 1270 over the River Monnow which guards the entrance to the busy main street has been used as a toll house, guard room, gaol and dwelling. It is the only preserved bridge of its design remaining in the UK. Monmouth is probably best known as the birth place of Henry V and his victory at Agincourt is commemorated around the town with place names such as Agincourt Square. The Shire Hall, built in 1724 and recently renovated, stands in this square and contains the Mayor's Parlour and the old Court House of the town, best known for the Chartist trial held there in 1839, and well worth a visit today.

Admiral Lord Nelson is fondly remembered...

Getting around
In this rural part of Wales, public transport is not easy to find. A car is absolutely necessary to reach the cottage and for getting around to see the sites. Safe outdoor parking is no problem in front of the cottage on the farm.
There is a station in Abergavenny which is 11 miles away and has links to South Wales and Herefordshire, but, again, a car is necessary to get there.

How to get there
Airport: Bristol International: 80.0 km
Railway: Abergavenny: 19.0 km
Ferry: Fishguard: 80.0 km
Monmouth is easily accessible from the UK motorway network. London is about 3 hours away by car and almost all of the UK is within a day's drive. The cottage is in a rural area and the last few miles are on quiet country roads. Detailed directions will be sent on booking. The nearest airport is Bristol International. Easyjet and Ryanair both fly into Bristol and it is an easy car journey from there, taking about 1 hour. On the way, you will cross the River Severn to Chepstow with its castle, and then through the Lower Wye Valley with its cliffs and forested banks to Tintern, passing close to the Abbey, then crossing the River Wye twice before reaching the market town of Monmouth where shopping is easy and interesting and then it is only a 10 minute drive to Becher's Cotta... more
