Take a trip back in time (with some modern conveniences)
This house was built in the early 1900's and was home to the hospitals matron for a time. It is perfect for a family getaway as its situated in the heart of Murtoa.
This beautiful town has always been a haven for wildlife and has one of the most attractive lakes in the Wimmera. A main feature within the town of Murtoa is the impressive 1890s avenues of sugar gum trees around most of the lake. There is a playground, BBQs, Rotunda and large lawned areas within walking distance of the home, Rabl park immediately to the North of Lake Marma as well as a series of waterways and ponds with attractive treed surrounds. Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.
Holiday rental reviews collected via the VRBO website (formerly Homeaway) and syndicated to the Tripadvisor website are not currently subject to Tripadvisor’s standard moderation processes.

awful rip off and con artist
DO NOT STAY HERE! WILL GET RIPPED OFF. I did not like having completed my trip, having to find out that the owner was a con artist. I paid 290$ for this trip. I arrived at 10pm and checked out at 10am having only slept in the house. A few days later I recieved this message from booking.com and I was appalled. This owner clearly has no morals and is a low life! I have never been so upset in all of my life having travelled the world. How can a person charge 50$ per bed for SLEEPING IN IT? Are you kidding me? The kitchen was barely used and was left spotless. We checked out on time also. I do not know if this owner is in debt or what is going on but I cannot believe booking.com are allowing it! It is a disgrace. See attached message received.
"Dear Martin,
Thank you for contacting the Booking.com Customer Service team.
This is how the accommodation has broken the fee to be charged.
This guest Left dishes and untidy kitchen generally $20, slept between sheet and quilt on four beds in breach of house rules and incurring a $40 per bed laundering fee as per terms and conditions (total $160) and checked out 11am instead of 10am as per terms and conditions incurring a late fee of $50, Hasn't paid the single night booking linen surcharge as per terms and conditions ($10 per person x 5 guests) $50
Total payable $280
Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions."

Wonderful area with a wonderful and homely house to stay in!
I stayed here with my family and we all loved the house and all the things to do in Murtoa, we had age groups from 1 year olds to a 45 year old and each one of us loved the house which had very comfy beds and was well equipped and also loved the kayaks provided. we had a great family holiday in the Crooked Cottage. We would all recommend to stay in this beautiful home and enjoy the fun activities that are available in Murtoa.

Stopping in again
So it's our 3rd time here, everytime it gets a little better.
This time we used the house as a jump off point to explore.
Sovereign Hill
The gold museum
And surrounding areas.
The cottage itself is Air conditioned, which was handy seeing the long weekend was 37, 40, 41.
The beds are comfortable and amenities clean and easy to use.
Thanks again for making our stay relaxing when needed.
