Chop Gate, North York Moors National Park, North Yorkshire, England
Raisdale Mill cottages have been converted from a 200 year old barn, so have thick stone walls and original oak beams and perlins. Forge Cottage forms part of a small rural complex which includes an adjacent cottage, the farmhouse and the former water mill. The nearest villages, each with a pub, are Chop Gate and Carlton. There is also a cafe/restaurant with small farm shop at Carlton Bank about 2 miles. There are weekly markets at Helmsley and Stokesley where you will find shops, including a supermarket and petrol station.

The coast at Whitby or Scarborough is about an hours drive away and Saltburn-by-the-Sea is even nearer. You can also have a day out in York or Durham both about an hours drive. 'Heartbeat', 'Herriot' and Capt Cook' country are nearby.

Perfect, quiet retreat for the family. We stayed here for 3 nights with our two girls (1yrs old and 3yrs old) and had a fab time. It's a lovely, quiet, family-time retreat, tucked away in the country. Would certainly reccomend it!

We were made most welcome at a cosy, well-appointed cottage with a brook close by. We walked up into the hills, but we also enjoyed visited York and Scarborough. We mixed cooking for ourselves with visiting local pubs. The countryside around is very quiet, very little traffic on the roads. The driving is interesting if you are used to driving...
