We really couldn't have been made to feel more welcome by Padraig and Catherine, who were helpful, kind, and made our stay so special. The apartment was perfect and very much a home from home. Great for us and our children, and it was lovely to go to sleep with the sound of the river outside. Surrounded by wonderful views, close to Le Train Jaune, and the fascinating and architecturally beautiful town of Villefranche-de-Conflent. Our stay was brief but we want to come back as we only touched the surface of things to do. Would absolutely recommend!

Our Perfect Skiing Centre
Padraig and Catherine put this one-time Alberes holiday let owner to shame. This is the second time that my son and I have stayed at their wonderful accommodation just up the valley from Prades, and we only wonder why it took us so long to come back. The apartment is comfortable, attractively furnished and well-equipped, and spotlessly clean. We were made to feel very welcome with goodies of all sorts to eat and drink, very welcome as we had arrived in Spain late on a Sunday afternoon. Padraig was a source of endless good advice and generosity. The ski resorts of the French Pyrenees are easily accessible by car - about 45 minutes - one hour if you miss the petrol tankers on their way up to Andorra. I am trying to persuade my non-skiing wife to come over for a summer visit, because the walking/river bathing/eating and resting must make for a splendid combination.

Exceeds even the most optimistic expectations!
This apartment is part of a large and old building situated on the side of the river Tet, at the edge of the village of Ria. The location is fabulous! The building is full of charm and character, and very nicely decorated and equipped inside. The hosts Padraig and Catherine are also full of charm and character and gave us the most lovely warm welcome. A welcome bottle of chilled champagne waiting for us, and the apartment was also pre-chilled (air conditioning) for our comfort on arrival. The terrace which is just across the landing from the apartment overlooks the river Tet and we spent many an evening there watching the landscape and listening to the river. You could even barbecue on that terrace if you wish, using the grill which is provided. There is another terrace, outside in the garden, for larger gatherings. The house is very quiet, despite being between a road and a river, because a) the road is not busy and there is a high wall between it and the building, and b) because it's double-glazed. So quiet that when you step outside and hear the river it's always a surprise. The hosts provide what they describe as 'a few suggestions of local things to do'. This list runs to 116 items! Using this apartment as a base for exploration (as we did, by car) is a perfect solution. The hosts were more than friendly and did everything in their power to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. They even gave us some bubble-wrap to protect some fragile things we wanted to take home. That's just one example. Oh - and if you're with a car the building has its own parking spaces out front - very handy. I recommend this place 100%.

Exceptional. Best all round self-catering experience.
Padraig and Catherine have gone out of their way to ensure their extremely spacious and lovingly restored accommodation in the foothills of the Pyrenees is not only comfortable and pleasant, but also caters for your every need and is exceptional value for money. You will not find a better all round experience in France, or anywhere, than here at Ria Sirach apartments. Their welcome pack included all the essentials you might need, not just for a cup of tea or breakfast, but the seasonal fruit and vegetables and bottle of wine ensure you have all the ingredients to just relax and take it all in as soon as you arrive. Although just off a busy road, this merely adds to the convenience, as you can get on the road into the Pyrenees or back to Perpignan instantly, having had a peaceful night's sleep, with only the River Tet audible from the bedrooms. Shops are only a short drive away, where you can stock up on some great cheeses and wines and, of course, your necessary groceries. There's plenty of parking too and no hairpin bends or steep hills to negotiate getting into this place, which is so very often the case when you stay in a mountain destination. If you're lucky enough to dine with the hosts, Padraig and Catherine, in their own cosy kitchen, you're in for a real treat, as their talents know no bounds. Can't recommend this place highly enough. A big thanks to our hosts. We will definitely return!

A wonderful family holiday
We travelled from the west country (U.K) by car, then ferry and continued driving down through France. The journey was very long, (13 hours with stops)but the further south we drove, the mountains started to meet us the the countryside was beautiful, with peach and other fruit orchards.
We arrived in Ria Sirach, and was greeted by both Pádraig and Catherine, who show us around the apartment. It was spotlessly clean, with everything a family could need. The rooms were spacious, the master bedroom beautifully decorated, the second bedroom with a double and single bed, and still plenty of space, the lounge/dining and kitchen area are very comfortable with every consideration made for practical living. Upon arrival there was a bottle of red wine, peaches and vegetables grown by a neighbour; a wonderful welcome! The bathroom which is much more lovely than the picture suggests is beautifully decorated, with a beautiful airy feel to it, with a large bath and a walk in shower. There is also a terrace with a grandstanding view of the village, river and mountains, which equipped for alfresco dining and BBQ, which we very much enjoyed using.
Throughout our holiday, our hosts were incredible, happy to provide local knowledge, directions and advice. Many days were we given fresh bread and more beautiful vegetables.
The area itself has plenty to do within 2 hours of driving. Great days out included Carcassonne; a beautiful castle city ( 2 hr drive), Argeles beach (45 min drive), the Tuesday market in Prades (5 min drive), which is full of beautiful fresh and local produce, the lake at Vinca (15 min drive), mountain drives including a look at where La Tour de France climbed, and a wonderful day out to St Thomas de Bains (35 min drive), which is an outdoor sulphur baths which is great for the whole family and we went twice. It is also great value at 5.50 Euros.
I would say you would definitely need a car, although there is cheap public transport, it is quite remote and having a car proved a plus.
We would love to visit again, the apartment is great value, wonderfully equipped and clean and our hosts were the greatest. Thank you for a great holiday.

Great home from home apartment in very good location
We stayed in this apartment for few weeks and really loved it. Its clean, very spacious, modern, with all you might need for a comfortable stay. We have visited many places in South of France but this location is the best so far. Depending on what you like to do, all is there... mountains, hiking, skiing, hot thermal baths, lovely local market, spectacular views and amazing places to visit. A short drive or 1 Eur train will take you to Perpignan with its delicious restaurants and variety of shops or you can go to the seaside resorts for a day trip and try their sea food fresh from the sea.
And above all these, there are the hosts always there to help, answer all the questions, give useful tips about places worth visiting and even bringing fresh bread or fruits for free!
We loved it and we are going back in the beginning of next year.

Spotless, spacious apartment in foothills of Pyrenees.
Our party of four stayed in this apartment in early July. The apartment is very large, with plenty of room for all of us. It is in an older building, but has been lovingly restored and decorated, and is well furnished with modern appliances and furnishings. We were very comfortable and especially enjoyed listening to the Tet river rushing past during the quiet evening hours. Patrick was very welcoming and helpful, even providing fresh peaches and wine on our arrival and directions to area restaurants. We were very comfortable here and would definitely recommend it.

Location great for walking
This is the second time we have stayed here. The location is great for anyone who is into walking (or skiing in the winter months)
The apartment is well appointed with all you need for a comfortable stay. The lounge, dining area and kitchen have everything you need. There are 2 good size bedrooms and a bathroom with seperate bath and shower.
The location is about 30 minutes from Perpignan, so access to the city for shopping or going to a rugby (League or Union) match is fine.
We arranged a 4x4 from Villefranche de Confluent to the refuge on Canogou so we can walk up to the top of Canigou. Recomended.
The Lac du Boullouse is about 1 hour away but has lots of walks around some stunning lakes and mountains.. Perhaps we will get up Mt Carlit next year.
Mont Louis has a small display of a Solar Furnace (Four Solaire) which is very interesting but Odeilo has a much larger Solar furnace you can visit .
We also went to the Catalan fortification of Perypertuse. Fantastic ruin high on a cliff.
Just a note: If you are walking check your insurance as it may not cover you over 2000m and lots of the walks are over this height.
