A steep but walkable distance away is the ancient hilltop village of Montefioralle. Dating back to 1085 it has a castle, church, restaurants, cookery school, winery, and events enjoyed by both locals and visitors from March til October. Other medieval hamlets nearby include Badia a Passignano and Panzano. All are well worth a visit.
Chianti is one of the world’s most celebrated wine regions, with September the most intoxicating month for festivals. There are many wine estates and tasting venues to choose from nearby, including two vineyards that are just a short walk away, open for tours and tastings.
It might be hard to tear yourself away from Casalone and its local attractions but with Florence, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni around 40 minutes’ drive away; Siena under an hour; and Montepulciano and Montalcino within 90 minutes, all of the area’s cultural and historical sights are a day trip away from this idyllic Tuscan retreat.
If you book Casalone the entire property, large infinity pool and extensive grounds are exclusively yours during your stay, providing the ultimate in privacy and tranquillity. The house is located at the end of a private road with no through traffic. The garden, terrace and pool are south-facing. On a hill with a slight breeze that helps to keep the mosquitoes away, it’s the ideal place to enjoy uninterrupted views of the scenery that inspired Leonardo da Vinci’s landscape paintings and which has barely changed since medieval times.
Surrounded by vineyards and sitting in 4.5 hectares, we invite you to help yourself to the fresh produce growing here, including olives, grapes, pears, apples, cherries, walnuts, almonds, figs, blackberries and peaches. You’ll even find a bottle of our own olive oil in the kitchen.
The beautiful garden is filled with roses and other plants and flowers, providing a delightful area in which to relax. The pool has fresh water, an outside shower, loungers with cushions, and umbrellas. There's also a pool room providing changing facilities, a fridge, sink and picnic glasses.
For outdoor dining there’s a large terrace with a table and chairs for up to eight people and a large umbrella. There’s also a barbeque and a pizza oven.
The house is spacious inside, with an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room. Upstairs there are three sizable bedrooms and a generous bathroom. There’s also an area with a sofa bed big enough for two. Downstairs there’s a further shower and a separate toilet. The layout is unusual, so we suggest you study the floor plans supplied in the photos to make sure it’s suitable.
Casalone is more than just a rental property: it’s also a home that we want you to relax in. It’s exceptionally well equipped for all of your needs and you’ll receive a warm welcome from Ester, who’ll show you around and make you feel instantly at home.
We know how vital it is to make the most of your precious vacation time, so we do everything we can to make your holiday enjoyable, memorable and hassle-free. From stocking up the fridge for your arrival to organising special dining experiences, booking your first night’s restaurant, advising where to go, or arranging sightseeing activities, just ask and we’ll be delighted to help. Beautiful house furnished with taste and soul, very well-kept garden and an infinity pool with endless views. We have never seen such clean water in the pool. The house manager Ester is always helpful and gives numerous suggestions to make the stay even more pleasant. We went home after a week, but our hearts remained in Casalone.

Amazing time in Greve
This historical home is very charming with a fully functional kitchen! You feel very much in the country when you are just minutes away from the city of Greve. The endless pool optimizes the breathing views! We ate figs from the fig tree and they were the best I’ve ever had. Our hostess was very gracious and walked us through the necessities of the home. Restaurants in Greve were very good. I bought leather goods from a little shop in Greve’s city center. Florence was 30 minutes away for even more shopping!! I would definitely stay here again!

We loved our stay at Casalone. It was perfect for our family
Located near Greve in Chianti, we enjoyed the spacious farmhouse, the beautiful pool, and the quiet beauty surrounding us. We picked cherries, walked the hills, visited wineries, and nearby small towns. We spent two weeks there and loved every minute of our stay.

Tranquil, stunning view, very well equipped and beautiful house
A stunning property, with well equipped house and pool. All you need, and a very welcoming host, Ester. The pool was clean, luxury sunbeds and a 180 degree view you never get bored of. Many eating areas and table tennis, a real party/family/all together house. I would thoroughly recommend it. Linens and bed so comfortable, no expense spared.

Complete escapism
Casalone is only 10mins from Greve and 30 minutes from Florence but it seemed hours from anywhere because of the blissful peace and quiet. All views overlook stunning Tuscan hillside of olives farms and you are only aware of other houses at night with lights in the distance.
The large infinity pool is fabulous with a deep end and a diving board so it kept the children entertained all day. Luxurious sun-beds ad parasols kept everyone happy as well as wifi by the pool!!
The house is stunning with high end furnishings but maintaining a very Italian feel. The kitchen is a cook's dream. Outside pizza oven was a great and enjoyable challenge to cook authentic pizza.
We were very lucky to be there when the garden fig trees were hanging with fruit waiting to fall or be picked!
The small historic village of Montefioralle a few miles away en route to Greve is worth a visit where probably very little has changed over the centuries.
Overall, our week at Casalone was blissful and a holiday we will never forget.

The place is truly magical. Tranquility does not do it justice,
We are a family of five (7, 9 and 11 year old) and stayed at Casalone for a week in July 2019.
The place is truly magical. Tranquility does not do it justice, it is relaxation personified in a setting that is picture perfect.
You arrive at Casalone along a private track and are immediately in love with the traditional stone Tuscan Villa. The accommodation is spacious with 3 large bedrooms and a 4th room which is multi purpose and has a sofa bed. There is a very large bathroom which the 3 bedrooms share and then a further toilet and shower downstairs. The entertaining space is all open plan, beautiful kitchen which is amazingly well stocked, great dining area with seating for 10, and plenty of room for a boogy, my kids anyway! And a nice comfortable lounge space - perfect for an early afternoon DVD for the kids while mum and dad relax by the pool.
Outside there are numerous terraces with entertaining spaces, all looking out over the far reaching views across the Tuscan Hills. The gardens are full of Olive Groves and Figs - a bottle of Casalone Olive Oil is waiting for guests, we nearly finished the whole bottle! There is also an amazing pizza oven, which was a highlight for us.
The infinity swimming pool is beautifully done. Plenty of loungers, and a pool room with sink and fridge. Probably the nicest pool and views we have ever experienced. The diving board is also great fun!
There is so much to do nearby by, but if you are as taken by Casalone as we were, we didn’t want to go very far! We did do a nice day trip to Siena. Head off early and have lunch there. then stop off in Castellina on your way back for an ice cream - a very pretty hilltop village with amazing views. Another recommended trip (aside from the obvious Florence day trip) is to San Gimignano. There are also lots of nice wineries nearby that you can visit and do tastings.
Eating out - we had three nights out, La Castellana (mentioned above), La Cantanetta Di Rignana (amazing food and amazing views - great for lunch or dinner) and a pizzeria in Greve, La Cantina (doesn’t look like much from the outside but a very unique experience with a very quirky owner).
Lastly and by no means least, the attention and support we received from the owner Barclay and Ester, who is the local contact, was outstanding. Ester got in touch with us a couple of weeks before our arrival and made us feel very at ease with everything. She is extremely knowledgeable about the local area and knows everything about Casalone. She booked us restaurants (which is sometimes a little tricky as our Italian wasn’t great!) and her responsiveness on whatsapp with any questions about Casalone was so comforting. It really made our trip as we felt very looked after and special.
We can't wait to return to Casalone.
