For convenience alone it is hard to look any further than this wonderful town house which, together with semi-detached sister property Marinella Blanca, boasts two sandy beaches, a world-class marina and all the amenities Cala d’Or has to offer (including a vast choice of restaurants) within walking distance. Recently constructed and thoughtfully designed by its local, architect owner the glorious position of the house radiates an appeal across all age groups, not least of which is the fact that reliance on a car to heighten holiday enjoyment is vastly reduced – if not removed completely for many guests. Internally cooling whitewashed walls and contemporary soft furnishings create a more than soothing environment. An unmistakable sense of space pervades throughout the open plan ground floor with patio doors on either side serving to keep the area light and bright as well as providing easy access to the covered dining terrace and pool area on one side as well as the barbecue terrace off the kitchen opposite. In subtle acknowledgement of the property’s enviable situation, just 400m from one of the Mediterranean’s most desirable marinas, take a closer look at the décor and you may well spot several understated but unmistakably nautical touches. On the first floor, the sleeping accommodation is equally appealing with a double bedroom and one of the twin rooms each accessing a terrace from where there are views across to the town and the edge of the marina itself. Or head up to the roof terrace for an even more attractive panorama that includes a swathe of countryside, the hilltop monastery of San Salvador and several of the postcard-pretty smaller towns and villages that nestle just inland. A delight for young and old alike, Cala d’Or (300m) is a place that undoubtedly offers something for everyone. Pleasingly, the town’s inevitable expansion over the years has not come at the cost of losing too much character or atmosphere (the highest building is only 4-5 floors tall) and, unlike some parts of the Mediterranean, commercialism in the thoughtfully pedestrianised centre remains at an acceptable level for most visitors. Families with older children or teenagers in particular will immediately see great appeal as will anyone seeking a first class choice of restaurants as everything from fine dining to casual tapas bars is readily available. Two sandy cove beaches (Or and Gran) are within 800m and three others (Esmeralda, Ferrera and Serena) are all within 2.5km. Boat hire, boat trips, fishing excursions, watersports, bicycle hire, tennis and golf at Vall’d’Or Golf club (10km) are all easy options or perhaps make a day of it at one of the delightful coves of Santanyi, Llombards, Mondragó or S’Amarador which are between a 15-20 minute drive away. With such an excellent choice of distractions and pastimes surely the biggest holiday dilemma at this property will be what to do next! Air conditioning usage is on a timer (12 hours per day).
