Stayed here for long weekend from Honolulu. Perfect private location- sitting at the fire pit with glass of wine cant be beat. The decor, like the house, reminds one of a simpler time - unrushed. Plus driving to Halemaumau for spectacular show is a snap....More

Our stay at this wonderful cottage was a three-day delight. We have stayed several times at Volcano House in the National Park, because we aren't really into the roughing-it sort of vacation. But here, we were comfortable and relaxed, surrounded by the beauty of the...More

About the neighbourhood
You will need a vehicle for a good look at the Park. The Park entrance is only 1 mile away. Kilauea Visitor Center, Jaggar Museum, Volcano House, Volcano Art Center and best of all - Kilauea and Halemaumau wait for you.

It is often rainy and a bit on the cool side (for us Hawaiians anyway :-) ) But we also have many brilliantly clear blue days. The area has little crime activity but you should always take the normal precautions.

We have several good restaurants, The Rim, Kilauea Lodge and Thai Thai. Those are great dinner destinations. Volcano Garden Arts, Ohelo Cafe, EagleNest Cafe are good for lunch. A basic breakfast would be Lava Rock Cafe. We have two small grocery stores and two small places to fill up your vehicle.
Getting around
You really need to have a rental car to see the Big Island. Our bus system is terrible and you will wait 1/2 day for one of the two buses scheduled and there are few covered bus stops. Hitchhiking is hard, We recommend that you rent a vehicle...
