Ironically, you can come and detach from modernity in our modern architectural home. You'll be away from everything and at peace living in the National Seashore for a peaceful escape. No neighbors on our over 5-acre hilltop property. When you drive up the hill to our home, the closest neighbor is over 500-yards away, completely out of sight and down the hill. The home has two structures. The main structure has 3 decks for sunning, a screened elevated second floor porch, 2 main bedrooms both w/ King and Queen beds respectively on the first floor (The King with a sitting area and one of the house's two fireplaces) and 2 bathrooms on the first floor. The second floor has the main living area w/smart TV, kitchen, dining, and a 4-season sun porch that has been converted into a bedroom with a twin & twin trundle. The second structure is about 200 yards away and very private (for those in your extended family who need their space). It is a stand-alone studio cottage w/Queen bed, reading and living area, ½ bath inside and only an outdoor shower (w/hot water) outside. There is a ‘day bed' good for a child or easy-going teen. All in, the Architect's Escape sleeps 9. Did I mention that a number of ponds and the ocean beach are just 5-10 minute walk? Gull Pond and Higgins Pond are right down the hill, and Newcomb Hollow beach is a 10+ minute stroll through the woods. Safe and fun for all in your family to enjoy! Please Note: home is ¼ mile down packed dirt road from main road; VERY Steep Paved driveway to top of hill. All cars with normal suspensions can make it on both the road and driveway (no lower suspensions). 4X4 not required. There are some potholes, but very easy to drive around. Drive slowly please. About the Architect and National Seashore Architect History: The house and studio at 190 Thoreau Way were originally built in the mid 1950s by Edwin O'Connor, the author of “The Last Hurrah,” the best-selling novel and 1958 motion picture directed by John Ford and starring Spencer Tracey, John Carradine and Basil Rathbone. The architect was Yale School of Architecture Dean Serge Chermayeff, a contemporary and friend of Eero Saarinen and Marcel Breuer, who all had houses nearby for decades. Chermayeff, father of aquarium architect Peter Chermayeff, was also a modernist artist, and created the shingle mixed media piece at the top of the stairs.
