About the neighbourhood
The neighborhood had its origins when in 1893, James Lefferts divided his farm into 600 residential lots, to be called Lefferts Manor. A rectangle of roughly half a square mile skirting the southeastern edge of Prospect Park, the Prospect-Lefferts Gardens neighborhood is known for its well-preserved late 19th- and early 20th-century architecture, a low-rise mix that includes Romanesque Revival, neo-Georgian and neo-Tudor styles. Along with the beautiful architecture, there is a lot of commerce and little cafes and restaurants along Flatbush Avenue. It’s a very lively and diverse neighborhood.
