Gayathri's home is close to surfing spot-‘Main Point’ in Arugambay in east coast. Home is a nice, simple place with two double bed rooms and two newly built cabana type rooms. This place give more homey feeling. Garden is filled with mango and other trees. Gayathri and his wife are runs this place. Rooms are really nice and spacious. And it completed with tiny pantry too. Garden gives more space to relax. If you are coming like a family this Gayathri's home is a superb place for children to play together. As Gayathri's family also living in next door it is easy to get help whenever you want.
Guest interaction
Gayathri is a traditional fisherman. He owns two boats that he takes out into the Arugam Bay each day to catch the fish he sells on the local market. Two years ago he built two rooms for guests to supplement their income. It’s quite a change from fishing to hosting, but they’re catching up quickly, as they can arrange all kinds of tours and transportation and Gayathri's got motor bikes for rent.
Other things to note
You can ask Gayathri to bring some fresh fish and his wife will cook it for you all. It will be nice experience to taste some Sri Lankan seafood with lovely spices. And try go for a boat tour in Arugambay in the sea or in a lagoon. And at Arugambay beach you can do some surfing also.
Overview
The Arugam Bay - Pottuvil area has seen a dramatic increase in tourism over the last few years. Long known among surfers as Sri Lanka’s go-to surf destination, it was only after 2010 that tourists started flooding in. Don’t worry, this is still Eastern Sri Lanka, so Starbucks and Burger King are nowhere near, but especially Arugam Bay, with it’s wide range of hotels, restaurants, bars and a small but serious surfer scene, really developed into a traveler boom town. You’ll see the fishing boats and surfers everywhere. Nearby Pottuvil is slowly catching up, which is great for those who like the surf, but have heard Bob Marley before. Most people visit between April and October, but this part of Sri Lanka has much more to offer, such as the 2000 year-old Muhudu Maha Viharaya Temple and the famous National Parks of Yala, Gal Oya and Kumana.
Getting around
Better to hire a car or a van to come Arugambay because Train are not going to Arugambay straight away. It is easy to catch a tuk tuk or hire a scooter to go for a ride around Arugambay.
