We are a party of two families and just got back from a week staying in this lovely chalet. It is warm and comfortable and the kitchen is incredibly well equipped.
The snug was perfect for our teenagers to call their own leaving the adults to make the most of the lounge and log fire.
We arranged a food order delivery from Sherpa which was waiting for us at the front door when we arrived, and took several of our evening meals next door at the Renard (they no longer provide breakfast for guests, hence the Sherpa order). I can confirm the food at the Renard is just as good as everyone says!
The bus stop is opposite and it isn't far to walk to the nearest (Linga) lift anyway. Having the river at the bottom of the garden means you hear the sound of running water rather than road noise too.
Hot tub set to a warm 40degC, bliss!

Superbly located chalet for a summer or winter getaway
We had a wonderful summer family break at this perfectly located chalet. Easily accessible to the town of Chatel as well as mountain biking, hill walking, swimming in nearby lakes or skiing in winter. We made the most of the Portes du Soleil multi pass which gave us access to lifts on the mountains in the area, as well as discounts to many activities and free entry to mini golf and swimming pools, among other things. The chalet itself is very well appointed, clean and comfortable- a home away from home. It has the added bonus of a hot tub in the garden and a river running though the back of the property, as well as a restaurant next door. We look forward to a return visit.

Lovely chalet in stunning scenery
We stayed at Chalet Isobel for 5 nights in July 2022. The chalet is lovely: cosy and comfortable with all the mod cons. The hot tub in the garden is a real bonus. There is a lovey river to cool off in at the base of the garden too.
The location is great. Easy access to pretty Châtel village with its multitude of cafes and restaurants but also easy access to the chairlifts (via bus or car) that allow you to easily explore the region on foot or bike.
Will definite return and highly recommend for families or adult groups.

Perfect family friendly chalet, just a few minutes walk from the ski slopes.
Chalet Isobel is a beautiful chalet in an amazing location just a few minutes walk from the ski slopes. There is a wonderful hot tub, where you can relax after a day on the mountains. If one evening you fancy a night off cooking, you can head into the restaurant located right next door to the chalet.
The self catered chalet is spacious, has a relaxing lounge area and a well equipped large kitchen. There is plenty of space on the ground floor for storing all your mountain sports equipment too.
A great place to stay for your mountain adventures.

Classy Chalet in charming Chatel
I recently stayed at Chalet Isobel and cannot recommend it enough. It has really convenient access to the slopes and is in a great location in the gorgeous town of Chatel. The chalet is extremely well equipped, and it was so nice to come back from a day on the mountain and curl up in front of the fire! The hot tub is an extra bonus and it was truly magical to be able to relax under the stars at night with the views of the mountains above. It would be a perfect option for a family or two if they want a ski holiday where they can escape to the snow and have a comfortable and spacious base where they can spend evenings together. Highly recommended.

Comfy, clean, stylish and super convenient!
What more can I say?!? Chalet Isobel is all of the above. The chalet itself is really cool; a good size and very well kitted out. The kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms are done up to a really nice standard and the living room was so cosy with that terrific log burner. The boot room downstairs was so warm, our gear was always toasty and dry when we headed out in the mornings. And The actual location is great too. You can easily walk to the nearest lifts but if you want to head slightly further up the valley, it is a quick and easy drive to the free parking at the next set of lifts. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday and will definitely be returning if we manage to find some availability! Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

Fabulous Chalet
We very much enjoyed our summer week at Chalet Isobel. The location benefits from having a car although the centre of town is only a 20 minute walk away and bus stops are close by. In winter the nearest chairlift is an easy flat 5 minute walk away.
The Chalet itself was fabulous and the biggest compliment is probably that it felt like home straight away. It’s comfortable, cosy, spacious, well equipped and the hot tub was well used throughout our stay.
We’d not hesitate to return, and highly recommend Chalet Isobel, and Châtel.

Mr
Visited in July 2019. Great location close to better lifts in the resort, babbling brook at the end of the garden and short hop into town Centre one way and supermarket the other for conveniences. Chalet is very well maintained with top notch finishings. Beautiful deep and large bath in the room I stayed in. The summer walking was good but will certainly be back for the skiing in winter now. Makes a great self catering option for a large family or two smaller ones.

Châtel is a beautiful village in the French Alps full of spectacular scenery and traditional mountain charm. It’s situated at the end of the picturesque and rural Abondance valley and set between Lake Geneva and Mont-Blanc.
Not far from the Swiss border at 1200m above sea level, Châtel has grown over the years from a small farming community to become a world-class ski resort (as well as a very popular summer destination). Despite this, Châtel remains an authentic perfectly preserved mountain village.
Although well known by the French, Châtel is a hidden treasure for many others, with an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the Alps, sitting in the heart of one of the largest ski areas in the world.
Getting around
Chalet Isobel is located with the River Dranse running past at the bottom of the garden, and it's surrounded by the mountains of the beautiful Abondance valley. It's very close to the skiing, ski shops and restaurants of the Linga area of Châtel - which accesses some of the best skiing in the whole of the Portes du Soleil.
- Very close to 650km of pistes
- Ski back to within 250m from chalet.
- 500m walk to main Linga ski lift.
- Ski bus stop directly outside chalet.
- Vast Portes du Soleil ski area on doorstep.

How to get there
One of the great attractions of a holiday in Châtel is the ease of getting here. With Geneva Airport only 90 minutes away, and excellent motorway and rail links, it's one of the easiest resorts to get to all year round.
FLIGHT OPTIONS
If you choose to fly into Geneva Airport (82km away) there are several airlines to choose from including EasyJet, Jet 2, British Airways, FlyBE and Swiss Air. You can also fly to Chambery (97km away) or Grenoble (188km away).
AIRPORT TRANSFERS - PRIVATE OR SHARED MINIBUS
Transfers from Geneva Airport are available 7 days a week during both the winter and summer season. There are a number of excellent transfers companies based in Châtel. We recommend the following:
- Professional Transfers
- Chalet TransferS
AIRPORT TRANSFERS - BUS
Two buses run on Saturdays during most of the winter season - book them online at the Altibus website. Transfer time approx 2hrs. Cost is roughly €60 per adult return (cheaper prices for groups of 4 adults). Child is half adult rate (5-10yrs). Under 5s travel free. Change bus at Thonon for Châtel. Alternatively, check out Autocars SAT.
FLY/ DRIVE
This is a great option - and definitely the best way to get here from Chambery and Grenoble airports. Although Châtel has an excellent free bus service, having a car gives you even more flexibility when getting around the resort and sightseeing around this area of France and Switzerland. If you wish to hire a car from Geneva we recommend you hire vehicles from the Swiss side of Geneva airport. The Rental Cars website is a good place to find your car. We have private parking for 3 cars at Chalet Isobel.
BY RAIL
Travel to Thonon-les-Bains SNCF railway station (TGV – high speed train). Transfer from there to Châtel by bus (40kms). Information and bookings at the SNCF website
Alternatively, travel to Aigle or Monthey railway stations (Switzerland). Transfer to Châtel by taxi (25kms). Information and bookings at the CFF website.
SELF DRIVE
Bringing your own car gives you maximum flexibility for your ski or summer holiday. Once you have crossed the channel either by ferry or euro tunnel the distance from Calais to Châtel is around 550 miles which can be done in one day (although a two day trip with a stop off on route is recommended). Take the A6 motorway via Macon followed by the A40 motorway towards Geneva. Exit at Annemasse, Thonon, Châtel. From Northern Europe, access via the Swiss motorway towards Martigny. Exit Portes du Soleil, 20 minutes from Châtel. Find the best route on Google Maps or the Via Michelin website. We have private parking for 3 cars at Chalet Isobel.
