Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.
If you have submitted a review for a holiday rental property, we may also ask that you provide us with proof of your stay to ensure that your review is attached to the correct rental property.

A brilliant taste of Yorkshire hospitality in a quintessential English village.
From the initial booking to the warm welcome from Catherine & Charles to the final reluctant goodbye, we could not have had better accommodation or more brilliant hosts. The cottage was extremely well provisioned with lots of thoughtful extras, well beyond a 'normal' welcome hamper. It truly felt like a home away from home for my husband and myself together with our son and daughter-in-law.

Holmfirth cottage
This cottage is absolutely beautiful. It is pristine. It is fully equipped with everything that you would need for your stay including a very big selection of toiletries for all ages. It is furnished as you would expect a cottage to be furnished. Just beautiful. The welcome pack Is superb. The garden is private and overlooks a big field that’s has alpacas and a few sheep. Very well kept also. Lots to do in the local area and the local pubs are great. Catherine is an amazing host And honestly can’t do enough for you. I We loved our stay so much that we booked two further stays while we were there. We can’t wait.

Fab stay at Manor Farm Cottage
Just the place for a quiet break away. In a small village with a pub just around the corner. The best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in. The welcome pack was more than generous, everything you could need, eggs, milk, bread, butter, jam, biscuits, cereal, coffee, tea, sugar and more. The cottage was very clean, warm and comfortable. Two nights was not enough, we will be back. I can thoroughly recommend Manor Farm Cottage.

Perfect Stay!
As a family who stay in a lot of different holiday lets when travelling, we can certainly say this was one of our favourites! I second every single 5 star review already written here, the cottage was well equiped, you can tell the owner puts a lot of time and effort into making her guests feel welcome and settled with ease. From the breakfast/cookies/wine/chocolates, to the big box of childrens toys and family games, to the well stocked family bathroom. There is everything you need. We visited with out newborn and our 7 year old son and there wasnt anything we had to go without. It made our stay super easy! Its clean and tidy, the parking is perfect as its away from the road, the garden is enclosed and private- perfect for children to play. The bedrooms are a really good size and the kitchen is such a large space with a cosy vibe! As others stated the pictures probably dont do it justice but the reviews certainly do. Its fairly priced and we wouldnt hesitate to book again when we are north to visit family. Thankyou for a great stay :)

Amazing stay
We have just come back from a 2 night stay and would highly recommend this cottage, the owners (Catherine & Charles) have outdone themselves, the rooms are amazing, there is nothing that you need to take with you as they have thought of everything…we loved it so much we have booked again. We also had an amazing nights sleep, the bed is so comfortable. The peace and quiet is amazing, lots to do and everything is catered for in the cottage for both young and old. The pub also around the corner is lovely and friendly and they do fab pie and peas which are made the the cottage owners daughter….I’ll have a family size GF steak when I come back please haha Looking forward to another stay soon xx

Beautiful, delightful stay!
We spent a short weekend at this beautiful cottage with our 9 month old and I can honestly say it was the most well equipped self-catering accommodation I've ever stayed in. Not only for our baby, with highchair, cot, bedding, toys and crockery, but also the welcome pack for my husband and I was a lovely touch and beyond appreciated. Cosy, clean and in a gorgeous setting. I highly recommend staying here, and we will no doubt be back I'm sure. Thank-you!!

Lovely,peaceful cottage
Stayed for the weekend with my mum and we both loved the place. The cottage is really peaceful and you can have breakfast whilst watching the alpacas in the neighbouring field. The cottage was exceptionally clean and really well equipped you could turn up with nothing and still have everything you needed. Lovely food/drink supplies on arrival too. The George pub was within a few minutes walk and the transpeninne way was accessible to walk from the front door. Will definitely return.

Welcoming, cosy, beautifully kept inside and out
On arrival, we were greeted by a lovely, well kept front garden and some llamas in the adjoining field (a nice little feature for families and animal lovers). There is adequate space for a large car. Once in the cottage, we came across our welcome pack which included almost everything you could need for a stay in the cottage. It included things like milk, bread, biscuits, tea and coffee, juice, eggs and more! It was lovely. The kitchen cupboards and the bathroom were well stocked with essentials as well. The decor, whilst it may seem old fashioned to some, is welcoming enough and cosy and fits with the age of the place (especially in the kitchen). It gets very toasty and warm on an evening with the heating coming on automatically, and with the added options of an artifical log burner in the living room and extra blankets upstairs. The rooms are all spacious, the chairs may need to be moved around in the living room for children to play freely but this shouldn't cause an issue; there is plenty of carpeted space in the twin room upstairs which could be used for this purpose. Speaking of play, the selection of children's toys and books is very good and they are all neatly hidden away under the alcove of the stairs. There is a Nintendo Wii that I think is mainly used as a DVD player but the option is there if some accessories and games are brought. There is a fairly good selection of books and DVDs for guest use. I cannot stress how well equipped the cottage is, as well as all of the above, there were up to date leaflets on things to do, the taxi service, the recent newspaper, recycling bins, a radio, a sort of "bits and bobs" drawer full of little things like matches, string, cables, etc. The sort of things you only seem to need when you don't have them. We experienced no noise or disturbances during our stay. It was a shame about the wet weather when we stayed as there was seating and a BBQ outside for guests to use. I would say the only real issue is maybe the Wifi is quite slow compared to what we're used to at home, but I suppose this is to be expected in a rural area and we had no trouble with using it for the basics; some places don't even provide Wifi. The location in Upper Denby is a good base for travelling to several other places, such as the famous Holmfirth. The George Inn and it's pies (within walking distance) come highly recommended and the Hide & Hoof restaurant (slightly further) is also good. I don't think this would be suitable for people who do not drive unless you only plan on staying in the cottage as even though things are nearby, the paths and roads are very typical rural countryside and are quite winding and hilly in places. Would definitely recommend a stay here, suitable for all seasons. Pack some wellies and/or wet gear if you DO plan to go walking anywhere. I personally didn't have a lot of contact with the owners, but they seemed like a lovely couple, especially with all the goodies left for us in the cottage.

A wonderful start to a special week .
We were visiting friends in Holmfirth for our silver wedding anniversary, en route to a week in Scotland . What a beautiful cottage, we felt so looked after by the owner, Catherine . She went over & beyond to make us welcome. A lovely welcome package. Walking distance to the local village pub. And few minutes in the car to Holmfirth. The view from the cottage was fantastic , with Alpaca ,sheep and chickens ! So perfect , we will most definitely be back .

A charming little gem
We have just returned from staying at the cottage for a few nights to end our summer holidays. It was a last minute booking and very reasonably priced, therefore we weren’t expecting too much, however this place wowed us. The photos online do not do this place justice at all. The cottage was very clean, comfortable and spacious with a lovely homely feel. We literally did not need to bring a thing, all linen and towels included, toiletries, cleaning products and a beautiful warm welcome pack of food to see us through, not to mention toys, games, books and dvds a plenty. The garden was lovely to sit and enjoy a morning coffee in the sunshine while being greeted by the very charming alpacas In the adjacent field and the even more charming and very chatty goose. What’s more, with a very welcoming pub just a couple of minutes walk down the road already we are hoping to return to this beautiful little cottage. We were sad to leave after 3 nights, it certainly was not long enough. A massive thank you to Catherine for a comfortable and pleasant stay.

Upper Denby is a beautiful village to explore with it's wonderful stone cottages, cottage gardens, local public house, historic church and listed tythe barn which is of great historical importance. Nearby is the small town of Holmfirth with its quaint shops and small independent cinema and theatre. Holmfirth is also the home of Bamforths, producers of the famous saucy postcards.
