An old tree trunk and large stones are good stopping points to enjoy the peace and observe the riot of wild flower colour in mid-summer. Guests have spotted swans, foxes, buzzards, kingfishers, bullfinches, butterflies, dragonflies and stoats. The highlight for me was spotting two otters playing with their tea, an eel!
The guests with an interest in wildflowers have lots to see; orchids, yellow irises, the rare skull cap, wild angelica, monkey-flower and can discover the minute and seldom seen flowers lurking beneath the leaves of marsh pennywort.
Guests can enjoy badminton, swing ball and barbequing in the summer. Indoors books and board games are provided.
Explore the homeland of Seamus Heaney and visit the Seamus Heaney Home Place visitor centre only 5 miles away. Visit the newly opened Davagh Dark Sky Observatory beside the ancient Beaghmore Stone Circles or try something more adventurous at The Jungle.
You are only an hour’s drive from all major tourist attractions; the Giant’s Causeway and Coast, Titanic Belfast, Game of Thrones set locations, The Gobbins Cliffpath. There is a great express bus link 10 minutes away to Belfast and Derry and the Belfast International Airport is half an hour away.
Locally Magherafelt offers many shops bars and restaurants.
Three miles away Ballyronan Marina has a blue flag beach, children’s play area and boat hire. Golf, horse riding, cycling and trekking in the Sperrins are all easily accessible. A free pass is available for fishing along the Moyola river.
Framed prints by local artist Liam Horner are on display in the cottage which can be purchased as the perfect gift or memory of your holiday.

Fabulous base for touring the north, with all you need for the perfect holiday!
The cottage is situated at the end of a cul-de-sac in the countryside. The Lough shore is just a short stroll away . Very comfortable indoors with all you need available. Easy access to main roads, motorways and many interesting tourist attractions. Kathleen ensured that our stay was most enjoyable and was on hand for any questions we had. Definitely hope to visit again!

A great cottage in a nice location
This really is a nice cottage.
Very quiet, yet close enough to major places like Belfast, to make it possible to have a good holiday.
Fixtures and fittings are good. With broadband, and a 'smart' TV offering quite a few channels.
The owner went 'out of their way' to make me feel welcome, and I managed to have a really enjoyable holiday.

Incredible
My partner and I stayed here for an extended break in July. It is such a beautiful and cosy house, the perfect setting beside the lough and very private. The house itself has everything you need, beautiful bath, great bedrooms and plenty of space.
I would highly recommend staying here if you get the opportunity. While here, we walked the peaceful private route to the lough, went canoeing, fishing and lots of relaxing. The host is brilliant and has thought of every detail!

Peaceful retreat in beautiful surroundings
Always a warm welcome. Waterfoot Cottage is beautifully fitted out and comfortable. A quiet and secluded location but not far from Magherafelt shops and restaurants by car.
Friendly and helpful people.

Lovely old fashioned cottage in a great location.
We stayed here for a week in July and, although it rained every day, we had a pleasant stay at Waterfoot Cottage. This was our first time in Northern Ireland and we had a really great holiday. The cottage is spacious and has a lot of private land adjoining for walks down to the lough, which was nice. The rooms are a good size and everything we needed was provided. There is even a friendly horse and donkey for kids to interact with. The owner, Kathleen, was very friendly and helpful. This is an ideal place to come to for a more relaxing, 'get away from it all' type of holiday. We thought it a good price too, bearing in mind the size of the place and the time of year.

The best place I've ever stayed in Ireland
It's perfect in every way. Peaceful private location yet very accessible. Plenty to see and do on foot, forget the car. Fantastic place to explore the whole county from the lough shore up to lough Foyle and the Atlantic ocean. The wAterfoot to the waters mouth. The whole place is magic. Best halloween I've ever had and the swans are great company too. Millie the horse and Tom the donkey are the best company and the walks around the lough shore and the river moyola just lovely.
The house itself is very comfortable, beautifully maintained and a perfect place to relax on a rainy day (of which there were few). Everything you need is there and the nearest shop not too far, its amazing. It is the best place I've stayed in in Ireland for bar my grannies house and I've been all over. Nowhere would you get such a great location to explore the best county in Ireland.

Lovely cottage
We stayed here for a week in August. We were in Northern Ireland for a wedding and we couldn’t have found a more perfect place to stay. Kathleen was absolutely lovely and when we arrived she found lots of toys for our four year old to play with. He also had a ride in a tractor which he loved! The cottage is a great base for exploring, we went in to Belfast and up to the coast. It was very clean, had a generous welcome pack and had such a lovely garden surrounded by the bulls and Millie the pony! We had such a great time and would recommend it to everyone - thank you!

Perfect
Our stay at Waterfoot cottage was a highlight of our time in Ireland. The cottage is perfect for a base for visiting relatives and seeing the fantastic scenery in Ireland. Loved the country setting, the friendly horses and cows. The walk down to the Lough is beautiful. Hosts were more than helpful and breakfast supplies were a very nice touch. Would highly recommend a stay at the cottage for an authentic Irish holiday!!

Charming
Everything you could possibly need for a tranquil holiday.
The cottage has all amenities.
It was very clean and beautifully presented.
Kathleen is extremely thoughtful and supplied maps for walks, local shops and nearest Tesco.
Kathleen also has the number for the nearest doctor on the wall!!! Such attention to detail made this a wonderful place to stay.
The beds are comfortable with high end bedding.
The walk to Loch Neagh is a private trail taking about 5 minutes. Holly ( the horse) happily roams free in this area and walked with us for some of the way.
If you love nature, this is THE place to stay.
A herd of cows walk around the adjacent field and literally come up to the fence around the bungalow.
We would definitely recommend this bungalow and want to return.

Our Surroundings
Wake up each morning to green fields, our guests tell us the closest thing to an alarm call is if the resident pheasant taps the window looking for a treat. After breakfast, we supply eggs from our own flock of hens, a short stroll to the Lough takes you past the pond with our resident duck 'quackers' and a wild mallard who are now an item! They love any treats. You can fish on this pond, guests have caught perch, trout and although the pike has been pulled in 'on tow' with another fish he lives to fight another day. The private walk to Lough Neagh takes five minutes ending at a picnic table. Along the walk an old tree trunk and large stones are good stopping points to enjoy the peace and observe the goings on in nature. From here there is a choice of paths through 20 acres of our ASSI shoreline. The area is rich in flora and fauna. Readily spotted are siskins, bullfinches, buzzard, kingfisher, reed bunting, dragonfly, butterfly, orchid and I have seen owls, badger, fox, rabbits, mink, stoat, newt and the highlight was two otters playing with their tea, an eel!
