The swimming pool courtyard and the Moorish garden are shared with Casita Mosaica guests (2 people) which is situated in the garden and has is own entrance. The owner, an English interior decorator and mosaic designer, lives between the UK and Gaucin and keeps 2 friendly house cats on the property. It is possible to rent both La Casita and the apartment together (sleeps up to 7 + a baby cot) to give families more space and privacy, please contact owner for further details.
Once inside the property, the apartment has it's own front door leading off the main entrance hall, a stunning Moorish painted hall/library, a large, bright, open-plan kitchen/dining room and comfortable sitting area equipped with fast fibre optic internet a smart TV with Netflix, audio cables for speaker, guide books on the area. Doors open onto both the garden and shady swimming pool terrace.
Both the master bedroom with en-suite polished plaster bathroom and the twin bedroom (or zip & link King bed) with en-suite shower room have double doors opening onto the swimming pool terrace too. There is a shady outside eating area beside the pool, another eating area in the shade of the garden pergola and sofa and chairs in the garden and of course sun beds beside the pool, with pool towels provided.
Comfortable beds and pillows, good quality linens, antique furniture, rugs and wall hangings, original paintings by local artists, flowers from the garden and good quality towels is what you can expect, as well as hand made mosaics from the Casa Mosaica Studio workshop in most rooms. The kitchen is fully equipped if you enjoy cooking: there is a gas hob, electric oven, and dishwasher. A washing machine, iron, hairdryer and first aid kit are also provided.
Weekly rentals from Saturday to Saturday out of season short or long rentals may be available, please enquire.
Gaucin is one of the most spectacularly beautiful mountain villages of Andalusia,. The location is astounding, white houses ranged along a lofty ridge, framed by craggy peaks, vultures and eagles wheeling overhead surrounded by miles of sun dried hills. The south side of the village has sweeping views across the Rio Genal valley to Gibraltar and across the Straights into the Rif Mountains of North Africa.
There is plenty to see in surrounding areas, apart from the other pretty 'pueblos blancos' in the Serrania de Ronda. Sevilla, the vibrant capital of Andalusia, is a couple of hours' drive away, Ronda, Hemingway's favourite Spanish town, is just 45 min on a beautiful road across the mountains. Granada and “la Alhambra” 3 hours. Costa Del Sol 35mins. Costa de la Luz one hour. Gaucin is 1.30hrs drive from Malaga airport, and 29kms from the coast.
With a population of 2000, Gaucin is perched 626 meters above sea level and has a fascinating history. From the Arab word “strong Rock” , Gaucin was once a major Roman settlement. The Castillo del Aguila (Eagle's Castle) dates from this period and was later used by the Arabs as a fortress, the remnants seen today were built in the 13th century.
The village was once a centre for brandy and tobacco smuggling bandaleros, but these days the centre of the village with its pretty tangle of narrow twisting streets and whitewashed houses is the inspiration for a sizeable artistic community and a combination of traditional Andaluz style and modern amenities. There are several good restaurants and at least 7 delightful tapas bars. The Gaucín Town hall organises many traditional festivals throughout the year which visitors can join in.

Smoking is allowed on the outdoor terrace, just not in the house please. There are 2 very friendly house cats on the property, so no other pets please. If guests have friends locally, they are welcome to invite not more then 4 to the Casita and it's private patio area; to use any other area of the garden or pool guests must seek written permission at the time from the owner. There is a full house book in La Casita for guests to seek local information and details on how the house works best.

Interaction with guests: Casa Mosaica has been the home of Emma C for 22 years. She is currently (2022) living partly in the UK, spending about 6 months in Gaucin. There are 2 friendly house cats, Kevin and Geoffrey and Spanish family who look after the house and garden, and a British maintenance man. If Emma is there she will show you around the property, and more then likely invite you for drinks on her terrace during your stay, otherwise keeping a discreet distance and not using the pool when the property is let. There is a good house book full of useful local information or you can contact Emma before for any special information. If the owner is not in residence there is a key safe to let yourselves in.

Beautiful, stylish rental home in a lovely Spanish 'pueblo blanco'.
We stayed 4 very happy weeks at Casa Mosaica. It's gorgeous! A beautiful Moorish garden with palm trees, jasmine and water features, comfortable, stylish rooms and a swimming pool with a shaded terrace, perfect for al fresco lunches/dinners. Absolutely loved having Kevin and Geoffrey, the sweetest cats EVER mooching about! The super friendly owners, Emma and Mike, were a fountain of knowledge about the local area with hot tips about the best place to eat or shop but they always maintained a discrete distance too. Casa Mosaica is absolute perfection and I couldn't recommend it highly enough!

Casita heaven.
Can't say enough.
We've stayed at many places in our visits to Gaucin over the last 25 years, but our stay at the Casita beats them all into a cooked hat.
I'm not going to describe the place, you have to go there and experience it. You won't be disappointed. It's a hidden gem.
My wife said "Everytime you think Oh, they could do with a ???? there. You look, and it's there." The place is very well thought out.
Thanks to Emma, who couldn't be more helpful.
Will be booking again soon.

The pictures don't do it justice...
An amazing place hidden behind a rather unassuming facade, the level of thought and care put into almost every detail of the house is apparent from the gardens, to the many views, lookout points and mosaics. The pool is great little extra for the hot Andalucian summers. I felt happy and peaceful from the moment I arrived at Casa Mosaica.

Absolutely Fabulous!
Casa Mosaica is so special, you can't even imagine it! It is an oasis! The design and attention to detail is second to none! It has a feeling of great comfort and style. Our stay was far too short and we will be back! We were delighted with how clean the apartment was and the friendliness of everybody involved.

Christmas Stay
We had previously stayed in the ‘Casita’ earlier in the year and enjoyed it immensely which led us onto booking a 4-week Christmas stay at the ‘Casa’.
Both the ‘Casita’ and ‘Casa” are exceptional apartments, with stunning mosaics adorned inside and outside the properties, we felt at home with everything one needs for a comfortable stay.
Friends and family stayed intermittently during our stay, and acknowledged we had found something very special at Casa Mosaica.
We enjoyed many trips out following Emma’s recommendations on places and activities in and outside of the area. But most memorable were the cosy nights in with the warmth of the wood burning stove.
Emma is an exceptional caring and thoughtful host, going that extra mile ensuring we had all our needs for our stay. The Casa is spacious, comfortable and well equipped, and all the special little touches didn’t go unnoticed.
Its easy to fall in love with Gaucin with it’s laid back village life, the friendly locals, lovely bars, and cafe’s, diverse and interesting shops, and restaurants; it has it all.
Overall, we had a wonderful time, and the marked contrast to Christmases and New Year’s back in the UK was refreshing and delightful. Very sad to be leaving.

A Stunning Retreat in the Andalucian Mountains
We loved our 6 night stay in the Casita. It felt magical waking each morning in this Moroccan inspired property, displaying the finest detailed ornamental tile work, created by the owner’s own hands. The stunning gardens and the scented jasmine through an archway of the Casita’s own entrance added extra enchantment to this spacious apartment offering a welcoming terrace at the top with breathtaking views.

Beautiful Moorish Retreat
Wow! What a place! This place is absolutely beautiful, peaceful and so relaxing. If you are into moorish design, paradise gardens within a lovely Spanish mountain pueblos blanco, yet close to the coast and other places of interest, then this place has it all. There are fabulous mosaics throughout the property and gardens which are stunning and inspiring. We feel as if we are in the grounds of a beautiful ryiad yet outside the walls is an equally beautiful white Spanish mountain town. Stay here and you will immediately feel relaxed. We loved it there and the lovely owner made sure we were well looked after.

Definitely the best place we have ever stayed in
The accomodation was definitely the best we have ever stayed in. The attention to detail throughout was absolutely fantastic and it felt luxurious. The mosaic decoration throughout was stunning. There is nothing that I could fault whatsoever. We used both the garden and the poolside terrace and each of them provided a wonderful relaxing place to sit, eat dinner and drink wine. The cats Geoffrey and Kevin were very friendly and were always pleased to see us.
The village is very picturesque and we enjoyed walking around in the cooler periods of the day. There are some lovely restaurants to eat in and we would often have a glass of wine by the fountain in the evening.
Although it is quite far away, there is a very large Carrefour in Estepona which has the largest fresh fish counter I have ever seen - it's definitey worth going to see it.

Perfect romantic hideaway
We are just returning from a week in Emma’s gorgeous casita and what a week it was. It is so tastefully decorated and has everything you could think of in terms of facilities (and a few things we didn’t think of!)
I can say without a doubt that this is the best rental property I have ever stayed in, and just the perfect place for a getaway as a couple.
We spent most of our time either lounging by the pool or sitting on the rooftop (which has views to DIE for).
We are already planning our next visit. Don’t think twice about staying here :)

Gaucin is a beautiful mountain village with sweeping views to Gibraltar and the Rif mountains of north Africa It is situated against the spectacular backdrop of the Serrania de Ronda. It sits 2000 feet above sea level on the crest of the Sierra del Hacho, and due to its key strategic position was once a major Roman settlement. Its castle, Castillo del Aguila dates from this era and was later expanded by the Arabs into a fortress.
Gaucin, is a traditional working village with pretty whitewashed houses and tangle of narrow streets festooned with flowers. The local people are friendly and throughout the year there are several traditional local festivities, including a spectacular bull run through the narrow streets at Easter, and the Saint's day in September.
There are a great variety of thing to do in the area depending on what sort of holiday you are looking for. If you are looking to relax then there is no where better then Casa Mosaica, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the village, where you can walk to all the tapa bar and several restaurants or even have someone come and cook Paella at home. Massage and yoga can be arranged and with the beach and golf only 25 mins drive away it's the best of both worlds.
For culture, Ronda, Jerez, Seville, Cadiz and Granada are reachable or even a trip to Tangier in Morocco. The stunning country side around provides a wonderful place for walking,riding, birdwatching, botany and mushrooming, local guides are available.
Getting around
A car is essential. The famous 'Mr. Henderson's Railway' built in 1890 from Algeciras to Ronda passes through Estacion de Gaucin (20 min drive from the town!) and well worth a memorable journey through the gorges of the Sierra de Ronda.

Malaga airport 1.30hrs drive. Gibraltar airport 1hrs, drive. Most guest arrive at Malaga and directions to Casa Mosaica will be sent from there. It's usual to take the AP7 toll road (3 tolls that take credit cards approx. €10.50 in total) to the A377 turn off. It's difficult to park in Gaucin, but Casa Mosaica is on the Ronda side of the village and parking is always possible outside.
