The village is lively and friendly, and although small, offers a variety of restaurants and bars, as well as shops and banks, scattered throughout the pretty, winding streets. Overlooking the village are the ruins of a Moorish castle giving incomparable views over to the Mediterranean coast, North Africa and Gibraltar. What a wonderful villa in a wonderful village
This was our second time at Los Buhos, this time with two other families. We had teenagers in tow and this fabulous place worked perfectly to accommodate and entertain all age ranges. As last time we loved the pool and the large and verdant garden - with hammock, boules and table tennis as well as some beautiful sculpture - a recent addition I think. The rooms are very elegant with wonderful artwork and lots of welcoming touches. The kitchen is large and well equipped - and we all ate together at a large table on the verandah, overlooking Gibraltar and the sunset. There are breezes to cool the villa - although it looks as though it would be wonderful even in winter as it has a woodburner and cosy furnishings in the beautiful drawing room that we never used! The village is a delight and there is lots to do within a couple of hours of Gaucin.

Perfect place to chill !
This villa was the perfect place to chill out with family. Lots of different areas to relax indoors and outside , tasteful, well equipped, amazing views from the terraces, beautiful garden and pool, and a short walk to some lovely restaurants. We particularly liked the large covered verandah for eating and relaxing and the outdoor table tennis table was very well used! We would definitely return !

Simply fantastic in every respect
We had a superb time at Villa Los Buhos in beautiful Gaucin. The house itself is very special with marvellous features, architectural detailing and large rooms. It has an airy feel with large picture windows with superb views and great terraces for al fresco dining and chilling out. The build quality is exceptional and all bedrooms are quiet and very private, it's important to have your own space from time to time on any vacation and Los Buhos provides that. The gardens are delightful as is the swimming pool and terrace area which gets plenty of sun but trees and pergola's provide shade when needed. Its location means it's only a short walk to Gaucin centre with its shops, restaurants and traditional Spanish atmosphere. Hosts Jacqueline and Ian Cockburn were always on the ball with information and help about virtually anything. One evening we were treated to a Spanish dinner cooked by a visiting professional chef accompanied by a flamenco guitar player, all on the beautiful and warm main terrace. The surrounding area also offers stunning scenery and views, art, culture, great food and warm hearted people. Perfect. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend Los Buhos for a highy quality stay in every respect. Richard & Anna Cuthbertson

Interesting, fun, relaxing in gorgeous surroundings.
We attended the art history course for one week in April 2014.It consisted of excellent lectures at Villa Los Buhos, interesting excursions, and fun activities in and around Gaucin. Villa Los Lobos is a very beautiful place where one can just sit and enjoy the stunning views from the terrace, relax in the big garden or by the pool, and enjoy all the beautiful pieces of art. We also loved the delicious local food and wine which was served. The lovely hosts made it a special place indeed! Gaucin is a charming small village which we enjoyed exploring. It is home to several local and international artists who opened their studios to us, and also came to teach painting and photography. All in all, a delightful experience!

Exquisite, characterful villa, perfect for large meals and parties but also for intimate moments and secluded peace
I was welcomed with such hearty warmth by the owners at this beautiful villa. It was not just the ebullience and generosity of their character that made mine such a happy arrival, but the house itself was cool in the heat, light and open yet full of intimate spaces, each decorated with carefully found and thoughtfully placed objects, paintings, and books, so many of which are local to the region - itself so rich in art and culture. I joined a party of 9, and the villa catered for us amply. There are several areas around the house and gardens to catch the sun or shade as a large group, all of which offer memorable views. Yet while it is an ideal villas for feasts and big parties, the brilliantly designed gardens provide many secluded spots for privacy and calm. We rarely wanted to leave the villa which, when you are in it, feels blissfully miles from anywhere, but open the door and we were in the heart of the charming and lively village. Restaurants, artists' studios, flamenco, the bustling main square, a castle and more give a vivid taste of Spanish life and a close community. Los Buhos is heaven

The perfect place to both relax and to learn and make new friends
We were two friends, both widows who travel a lot and are both still working in academia and internationally so we are pretty "picky" and not sure about joining a "group". Who would they be? How would we fit in? But neither knew enough about the art and history of Andulasia, (more about Italy France, Greece and beyond), and we also wanted sun, rest, good food. VILLA LOS BUHOS was divine in every possible way. First the Villa itself is stunning, gorgeous, and every room with ensuite showers, beautifully and thoughtfully arranged with an Andalusian local touch. The food , breakfasts, lunches, dinners was the bests ever.. Ian and Jacqueline as hosts and as lecturers on art and history and culture of the region superb. Our outings divine. The pool, the garden idyllic. And the other guests wonderful, we made lasting friendships, were rested, refreshed and intellectually as well as gastronomically stimulated and satisfied. I recommend this Villa its hosts, and its courses its food, its welcome and warmth unreservedly - and having travelled widely all over the world this review should be taken seriously !

Lovely place, welcoming and cultured hosts who know everything the area has to offer.
We stayed for a long weekend at the beginning of August, long enough to enjoy the village and make a trip to Ronda, soak up the heat, cool off in the pool and enjoy views of the Rock of Gibraltar and lights of Africa from the terraces.. One evening we had a beautiful walk in the nearby hills, something we would not have thought possible given the heat and our lack of knowledge of the area. The villa is spacious and all the rooms furnished to a high standard with an en suite. Our room had access to a small terrace with lovely views. One word of warning. The villa and gardens are on several levels so not ideal for anyone with difficulty managing stairs. Best of all was being looked after by Jacqueline and Ian who are not only distinguished art historians but also experts in the food and wine of the area.

Built with Love and attention to detail.
A large, elegant and beautiful house. It has such an intriguing circular staircase as you enter, you immediately want to explore. And everything you discover in this fascinating house is better than you imagined it could be. There is a fine collection of local art and for style and comfort the while house is exemplary. Los Buhos has been built with love and great attention to detail and it shows. I spent many happy hours drawing in the garden and felt no desire to leave this very special place.

A complete treat - luxury for the body, beauty for the soul and Andalucian art and culture for the mind.
Stayed at Los Buhos as part of a week-long art and history course and it offered the perfect setting for the group. Lots of space, in both villa and garden, so you could socialise on the loggia or round the pool, or chose your own quiet corner and just enjoy the surroundings. The lectures and the visits to Ronda and Jerez were great, the food was delicious, the wine ditto, and Jacqueline and Ian worked tirelessly to make sure their guests had everything they needed, while making it all appear effortless. They managed to create such a relaxed atmosphere it really was like being in your own home, with the added bonus of a dinner party every night, with a fascinating group of people, and absolutely no effort required! Thank you both.

A rare gem of a traditional Andalucian villa in Gaucin.
Situated within easy walking distance of the restaurants, bars & shops of the charming village of Gaucin, this stunning villa offers views across to the Rock of Gibraltar and, on a clear day, even as far as North Africa. A total refurbishment of the villa having just been completed, we enjoyed an idyllic week in this lovely property. The spacious living rooms and bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to the highest standards in the traditional Andalucian-style that ensured a comfortable stay. A large balcony and open area overlooks the swimming pool, as well as a delightful Japanese-inspired garden. In short, this is the perfect choice of villa in which to unwind, relax and to re-charge one's batteries. I will return.
