Shops nearby include artisanal bakery (good for croisants and 'gache' - like old-fashioned hotcakes - for breakfast, fabulous bread and also sandwiches, soft drinks and some groceries), butchers/charcuterie (excellent local meat, prize-winning sausages and pates, rotisserie chickens, also cheeses, wines and some groceries), shop selling mussels and oysters caught the same day from Utah Beach, hairdressers, antique shop and militaria shops.
Restaurants in the village: L'Estaminet is slightly more formal and La Creperie Montoise with simpler food a little more relaxed. Both serve excellent local specialities - typical Norman food.More
The house is in the centre of Sainte Marie du Mont, the first village to be liberated on D-Day. Close to Utah Beach, set in the Contentin regional conservation park and near bird and wildlife sanctuaries. The region is rural, tranquil and unspoiled although shops, traditional markets and supermarkets are near by.
The region is a major centre of D-Day and WWII heritage, with Utah Beach 4 miles and other landing beaches nearby. There are many world-renowned museums and markets and specialist shops for souvenirs and militaria.
Mont St Michel and Bayeux are in driving distance.

Getting around
Cycling is easy on the flat terrain. Utah Beach is in walking distance and all of the major D-Day sites and museums, also Bayeux and Mont St Michel, are in easy driving distance.
