Banat is a 7 minute drive up the mountain from the main road with only one other settlement further on. It is the perfect place for those that would like total relaxation and holds a true sense of getting away from it all with the peace and magic of being nestled in pyrenean majesty. Prats-de-mollo la Preste is the closest village, a short 15 minute drive, with all you would expect from a beautifully situated french town, local shops offering fresh produce, well respected restaurants and a fantastic inexpensive out door swimming pool. For sightseers Fort Lagarde offers explosive reenactments. There are many other towns and villages to explore, all having their own character and interests. Arles Sur Tech has the Le Tech river running through its center where you can canoe and swim, further along Ceret has the most amazing Saturday market. You can find out the different market days for all the surrounding villages and towns by visiting the tourist office just off the central square in Prats-de-mollo where visitors and locals often play boulles. The farmhouse is over 400 years old it took three years to renovate taking time to be sympathtic to its history and character and completed in 2007. All appliances were brought new and are kept to a high standard with relatively little use. It boosts a truly fantastic large farmhouse kitchen with many original features and a large table seating 8 people. The living area is kept simple with an antique day bed for sitting or lounging, a chaise lounge for even more comfort, original artworks and sculptural objects are hang all around the house. you are led straight out onto the terrace from the living area where a large parasol is available, recliners, table and chairs for dining and of course the 360 degrees of the amazing pryrenean mountain landscape most definitely a place to spend a warm summers evening. Three bedrooms are on different levels giving privacy to all, one with an en-suite bathroom, the middle bedroom has an african feel the room is flooded with light by a large window the floor was carefully renovated, as in the rest of the house leaving as much of the original as possible retaining the atmosphere and character of the past. The third is at the top of the house we have given this a multi functioning purpose, either bunk beds for the children or a pull down double bed. There is also a seperate bathroom and toilet on the ground floor. The house can comfortably sleep 6. Beaches and Swimming pools: We are spoilt for choice when it comes to swimming. All the surrounding towns and villages have well maintained very child friendly swimming pools, our closest being Prats-de-mollo 15 minuets away a large pool for the serious swimmers and a great childrens pool. Arles Sur Tech offers the same but can be slightly busier, Amelie-Les-Bains also has a great pool with the added extra of high diving boards. It is always worth taking your swimming bag as most of the towns and villages have very accessable well maintained friendly communal pools and you never know when the fancy might take you to dip your toes in the river Tech along the way. Beaches can be found just over an hour away, popular resorts are Argles, St Cyprian and being so close to the border there are many Spanish beach options which are well worth exploring. Cycling, skiing, golf, canoeing: Pyrenees - Orientals is well known for its road cycling. The Spanish boarder is roughly 1/2 an hour from the house this is where my favorite beach can be found. A great experience to come and go from france to Spain with Barcelona actually only a couple of hours away. My partners Family owned a house in Ceret for many years and as a couple we have been holidaying in this part of France for almost 20 years the last nine with our 3 children. The mountains are breath taking, having the choice of being in France or Spain whenever you fancy is such a great advantage, the Catalan people always seem to celebrating a festival. Catalans are well known for the Sardana dance where it seems most of the town will join in during the many events. We spent 5 years looking for the perfect house / location knowing the area so well we realised instantly how special Banat is, the perfect mix of not too far away from it all but that short distance gives you the all important private time, we often rush back to the house on the hottest days as the air is cooler and fresher away from the towns. About the neighbourhood
perpignan airport, Carcassonne,Narbone girona
How to get there
Airport links couldn't be better, you are spoilt for choice, we normally fly into Perpignan in France or Girona in Spain they are about equal distance, we have used others that are slightly further Carcassonne, and Narbone and driven many times. If arriving by road from Perpignan or Barcelona: Take the D115 at Le Boulou, direction Ceret (this has good super market shoppping and Ceret has a fantastic Saturday market). Continue this route through Ameile Les Bains and Arles Sur Tech until you reach the small village of Le Tech, this will take about 40 minutes. On leaving Le Tech take the right hand turn sign posted D74A for Col de Sous, La Llau, Banat, continue up road for about seven minutes until you reach the right hand turn with a small sign post for Banat. Cross the bridge over the r...
