Holiday Rental House
An old style town house in the heart of Ogliastra in the mountain village of Jerzu, the “Città del Vino”, situated the neighbourhood called “Trippusu”. The house belonged to my grandparents, passed down to my father and then passed on to me, where I spent 18 years of my life. Not much work on the outside of the house has been done just lately, could do with a face-lift but I am afraid that will have to wait! As they say “Rome wasn’t built in day!” What you see when you walk in – straight in front of you is the first ramp of steps, there are 2 ramps in all to each floor with a small landing between each ramp. The first door on the left as you enter the house takes you to the bathroom, which is separate in to 2 parts. The main bathroom and then a smaller room; where the box shower is situated. Now I will admit that the design of the bathroom tiles are somewhat horrendous. They have been there since my grandma had the bathroom first put in, many moons ago! Obviously was the fashion in those days! My excuse for you is that, you will get a real authentic feel of what the Sardinian Style was! All the necessary sanitary fittings including a bath! But let me warn you, if you are thinking about a nice relaxing bath, I’m afraid this one is just not perfect for that, as it only 1m long as it is a sitting bath, basically it has a seat inside. Unless you like the idea of having a bath with your legs hanging out! Look on the bright side it will be an experience! First bedroom with bunk beds. Right at the back of the room, it has a wall wardrobe, in reality, when my grandma lived here, that was her kitchen cupboard. The doors are still the original ones, my gran had way back when, I just striped the paint off them and turned them into wood colour. Well as you have gathered my daughter loved Winnie the Pooh, got me to stick stickers all over the cupboard doors! I know this isn’t appropriate for some folks but if I tried to take them off, the varnish would probably come off too! Meaning I would have to re do the doors! Sorry but I just haven’t got the time right now! Maybe one day I will sort that out! The pro side to this is you may have young children who would adore this, if not try not to look at the wardrobe too much! On the Second Floor landing is a small WC facility, quite handy for the nights, saves trolling down the steps and all the way back up again! Since leaving, the master bedroom has had a face lift, freshly painted walls using colourful colours, although if I was honest with you we picked the orange colour as it disguised the slight damp mark on the wall perfectly, honest… you wouldn’t be able to notice it at all! Old English furniture, nothing matching mind you, trying to find a bedroom set is not easy, and if you do, they would cost the earth, so the best match is what we came up with. The bed is a traditional English double sized bed; The second singles Bedroom with bunk beds. When my gran lived here, this use to be her bedroom and apart from the bed it is the same furniture she had. That makes these furnishings pretty old and yes, you guessed the doors are slightly dodgy! Just another touch of authenticity for you, in 18 years never got round to sorting them out but as like everything there’s a trick to opening them up and of course I will fill you in on that! About the bedroom décor… Harry Potter! You are probably thinking that my son was a Harry Potter fanatic, in reality he was not… it was me! Long story! I suppose that makes me sound bad! I don’t look at like that, he was happy and that’s all that counts. The fireplace in kitchen is still usable, but if you are visiting in the summer doubt, you will need it. A fridge freeze, with all the necessary utensils hidden in the cupboards and draws. The gas hob, do not shout at me, but the oven at the moment doesn’t work, not that I think you would want to be baking while you’re on your holidays, plus, switching that oven will just warm up the kitchen nicely NOT! Always wanted a dishwasher but was impossible to fit one in this kitchen! So, I’m afraid it’s marigolds on your holidays too! The cupboards above the sink is a draining rack, at least you won’t have to dry and put them away! When I first moved here, the house that was in front of me had a much lower roof, was just perfect as I could sit down on the balcony and still see the sea on the horizon in from of me. A few years later, my neighbours had the brilliant idea of renovating the building and up shot their roof, closing off my view, How Rude! Just wanted to mention also that the washing machine is on the balcony, best place for it as the pegging out, is done over the balcony, quite convenient. Not at all trying to put you off here, just want to make sure you don’t get any unwanted surprises. The house is a cheap accommodation exactly for this reason; nothing luxurious, but certainly comfortable for a short stay to enjoy our area of Sardinia. More
