Melody Farm: cozy little house on 25 acres, tranquil and relaxing

Overview
Farmhouse -
2 Bedrooms , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 6
Culdaff, County Donegal
Stay and experience the easy-going, friendly, Donegal way of living. Down a long private drive on our own farm with natural bog-land and a river.

National Geographic named Donegal #1 place on the planet to visit - ahead of Peru #5, Canada #7, India #9, South Africa #10, New Zealand #11. And they gave Inishowen peninsula the title “the jewel in the Donegal Crown ...a beautiful area ..still feels undiscovered ..squeezes the 1,600-mile Wild Atlantic Way into a 4.5-mile nutshell”

The house itself is cosy, clean and well cared-for and last summer guest rooms were refurbished. It's centrally heated by radiators and also has a fire-place in the living-room.

The living-room is relaxing with plenty of seating (sofa, rocking chair). The kitchen is modest with a dining table for 4-5 and plenty of crockery.

The utility room leads to the back...

Interaction with guests
Depending on which hosting option you prefer we either leave you to enjoy the house all to yourselves ....or are there to welcome you and cook breakfast (mostly in summer months). When we are not in residence our neighbour will give you the key and turn on the heat a couple days before you arrive.

About the neighbourhood
Lovely rural area, relaxing and tranquil. The only noises are a farmer or a cow off in the distance. Abundant with wildlife: pheasants, hares, 3 cuckoos living nearby.

Perfect for walking and exploring. Very safe for children, tucked away from the little local road, down a private drive. Roam freely through the fields and out to our preserved bogland.

Getting around
Culdaff is a sleepy village with a water pump in the village green, Malin Town won the Tidy Towns Competition and Gleneely village is the nearest but just has 2 pubs: sadly the village store closed recently.

Greencastle is an active fishing port that has a little seafood restaurant. The Shrove lighthouse is worth the trip and has a little beach that is postcard perfect.

Carndonagh is best for food shopping. It has a big, well-stocked Supervalu with everything you need including a butchers and fishmongers in-store. Lidl is in Buncrana.

Take a trip to Doagh Isle Famine Village, Trawbrega Bay, fishing in Bonagee or Malin Heand and Ballyliffin if you love golf.

How to get there
Railway: Derry / Londonderry: 30.0 km
Ferry: Belfast: 140.0 km
To do the area justice it would be best to have a car, because there are loads of hidden-away spots you will miss if using public transport.

However, McGinley's bus departs Dublin daily (from Parnell Square) direct to Inishowen and stops at the top of the main road (10 minute walk from the house). It departs every morning at 7am. There is a local bus (Foyle Coaches, has a website) from Derry to Carndonagh a few times per day: the last two depart for Carndonagh at 4.15 and 5.15

There are local taxis services also from Carndonagh.
