About the neighbourhood
Home of the West Highland Way, Milngavie lies 7 miles (11km) to the north of Glasgow.

The village grew into a minor industrial centre in the nineteenth century, with paper mills and bleach works on the nearby Allander Water. Some remnants of that industry can still be seen today. In 1859, Queen Victoria opened the Milngavie reservoir complex which is made up of the Craigmaddie and Mugdock reservoirs. Their combined capacity of 548 million gallons provides the main water supply for Glasgow.

Milngavie has magnificent open countryside on its doorstep and, as a result, it is a rural and tranquil idyll for walkers and cyclists alike. Whether it’s a gentle cycle around the village, hiking or mountain biking along a forest trail.
