About the neighbourhood
Ty Beic in the hamlet of Sarnau, 4 miles north east of Bala. Bala has everything you would expect to find in a small market town including banks and ATMs, Post Office, pharmacy, two small supermarkets, butchers, greengrocers and numerous pubs, cafes and restaurants and an excellent craft beer shop. Slightly further away (5 miles) is Tyddyn Llan, a Michelin starred restaurant in Llandrillo, and for spectacular views as well as delicious food I would recommend the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel (10 miles away). The 'local' is the Bryntirion Inn, 3 miles away in the village of Llandderfel. It's very friendly with great beer and good food. In the same village is Pale Hall, a country house hotel and fine dining restaurant.
Getting around
This is a rural community with very limited public transport so a car is a necessity. Trains from Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Chester and Cardiff stop at Ruabon and there is a bus service to Barmouth and Wrexham from Bala. There are three local taxi firms.
